Why do people think honda and toyota are so great

why do people give them so much credit chevy dodge and ford are just as good if not better than them, proof is some of the cars ive seen

1997 chevy silverado 319,000 miles

1998 dodge ram 257,000 miles

it all depends on how well you take care of them not what brand you buy my friends honda just broke down and cost him $300 to repair it, so why do people think they are so good?

I'm a domestic car guy, have yet to own a foreign car.  However, foreign cars have the reputation for being able to take a beating better than a domestic.  Don't get me wrong, most cars will last if you treat them well, it's just that foreign cars often go even longer.  I used to work at an auto shop and they had MANY more domestics come in as foreign vehicles...

taking care of your vehicle is very true and will definitely prolong its life but also look at the security and safety features...you can rack up miles on any car but which one will u feel safer in? but your also speaking about trucks so i"l give it to you on that...better gas mileage also kicks in when ur talking imports...u get way better gas mileage in a honda or toyota den u would in a dodge or chevy...

I think it really comes down to preference, everyone has an opinion on whats best. In Hawaii where I live Toyotas are the hottest trucks especially the older ones like 85-97 with rebuilt engines. Toyotas are one of the most expensive trucks out there but I do see alot more older toyotas driving around then fords or dodges but that might just be because I live in Hawaii.

What it all comes down to is like you said how well the person takes care of the engine and the quality of parts put into it.

You can make almost any modern car/truck last well over 200k miles if you take care of it. BTW I own a  Ford Ranger and its still running fine at 130K miles.

You're just wrong. Nobody said they never breakdown. No car is perfect, but some are better than others.

Ask people that have owned them, look at reliability information, read reviews, and look at the ratings. Honda and Toyota regularly hit that kind of mileage and they do it more often than any domestic manufacturer. Not only do they last long, but they have less problems and are more durable. It's not just about maintenance, it's also about good design. If you baby it, trash it, drive it easy, or drive it hard, they will take it...Honda and Toyota make extremely well made cars.

Hi! Before I try to answer your questions let me just say that Ford & General Motors are the pioneer in the motoring industry. Toyota came in late and Honda was a motorcycle company who decided in making cars in the later part of the century.

My family are former Ford users (F-series Pick-up (1966 to 1973), 1953 Ford Corvair Stationwagon, Ford Cortina 1976 & 77, Ford Escort RS Series 1993). If you feel that Chevy & Ford are the best, good for you!!! I don't doubt it. If you know people who have bad experience with Japanese cars...too bad!!! But also if a lot of people think and feel that Honda's & Toyota's are good vehicles maybe they have good experience with it, kindly respect other people's individual opinion. There is probably a good reason why a lot of people feel that Honda & Toyota automobile are good.

I am quite surprise with your question. Your first statement proved that The '97 Chevy & '98 Dodge are already great cars because they ran more than 250K miles. You claimed that a Japanese branded car costed $300 to repair. So why the insecurity against people who feels that some Japanese cars are "great'? How about European cars? I think your question is highly unusual. Could it be because the Honda & Toyota's are Asian carmakers. I believe that American cars are built well and runs also great! I know because I used to have one. But just for your info Japanese brands were not good decades ago. You have to give credit that they improved a lot from that time. So to answer your question, "Why do people think Honda and Toyota are so great?" that's their business and opinion. Respect them the same way we all respect people who think that American cars are also so great. Cheers.
