Why do people think it's nuts that i don't have a cell phone?

i don't get it.

i really don't care that i don't have a cell.

when people ask if i have one, and i say no(cause i don't), they often act SYMPATHETIC.. wtf?.. i really don't want one.

they do the same thing when they learn i don't have cable TV

I would not worry about it. I am the mother of 3 and I have only had a cellphone off and on for about 8 years. I tend to have the cheapo prepaid phones. Since I have 2 kids in school and doctor appointments and stuff I need to be in communication range. I like the prepaid since I only have to put $20 (120 minutes) every 90 days on it.

I did not have cable or high speed internet for years. Just got them recently. The high speed is mostly so my 7th grader can do research for school. dial up was painful to use for research...way too slow.

I don't have one either.

It's not a big deal. I can contact anyone I need from my normal house line, and, when I'm out, chances are I don't want to be interrupted from whatever I'm doing by someone on the phone.

I'm the only person in my whole group of friends who doesn't have a cell phone. It doesn't particularly bother me...plus, it seems that whenever I try to call one of my friends on their cell, they either don't have it on or don't answer!

omg yeah i know its the same way for me i don't know why people are so worried about why i don't have one ither. I mean ive had them in the past but now i don't have one and it doesn't really bother me because is not like I dont have a house phone

I don't have a cell phone. When I had one all I would do is talk and run up my bill and eventually run out of minutes(When I had loads of friends)..I really don't have alot now..

That's life hun, that's what people are now a days and I hate it....I don't have a cell phone and my friends do and they always ask me if I have a cell phone and I say no , and the fact that bothers me is that they know I don't have a cell phone they still ask...I don't have one because I have a huge family so I'm the youngest girl so they won't buy for everyone

some people just dont have things other people have and it really dosent matter. Some of y friends dont have cells yeah it is an inconvenience at times but o well.

i myself have a cell phone but i dont use it

people always tell me why do i have a cell phone if i don't use it

& when i tell them i dont have texting they say "aw that sucks" when in actualility it doesn't

my friend didn't have cable tv but it never bothered me

when i went over her house we had plenty more things to do then to sit and watch tv anyways.

i guess people are stuck in some fantasy world were tvs and phones have to exsist

but there is much better things to do in life then to text and watch tv.

Lots of us can't even afford those new gadgets. There's no use for possesing something you don't want. Maybe they're just being sarcastic & trying to rub it in your face. Kids are evil like that.

I used to know a girl who had no electricity in her house.  Her parents had bought an old farmhouse they were fixing up, and adding electricity was the last thing they planned to do because it was so expensive.  It wasn't a problem for them... they had a generator for lights and other necessities... and they got along just fine.

But people were always shocked when they heard she had no electricity!  They couldn't believe you could actually live without it.  They'd either feel sorry for her, or make jokes about it, or they'd ask, "Why don't your parents believe in electricity?" It always got on her nerves... probably the same way you feel.  Because she didn't have a problem with it at all.

I guess it's just a normal reaction, when you don't have something that everyone thinks of as a necessity of life.  But try not to let it get to you.  Just calmly explain that you don't have one because you don't need one, and that you're fine with not having one.  If they make comments about it that annoy you, try to just ignore it.  They don't mean any harm, they're just not thinking that it might make you feel bad.  No use getting upset by someone's thoughtless comments.

the people i actually talk to on the phone anymore is my best guyfriend, my friends who live in other countrys (cause i cant text to there) and my boyfriend (when i have one)
