Why do people think it's ok to enter a store 5 minutes to 9pm?

I think it's plain rude. Unless they know exactly what they want and can pay for it and leave the store by 9pm, but most people come in, browse and by the time they leave it's like 9:15. I wanna go home people! Etiqutte=do not enter a store after 8:50p that closes at 9!

  1. The store is still open so people have every right to enter the store.  That's life in retail.  Deal with it.

  2. lol...this is so true..

I use to work at Best Buy and there is always that one customer that wants to talk and shop 5 minutes before closing and is so indecisive..you want to help but at the same time you wanna scream "go  home jack@ss!!" lol..it just depends on your store..some stores will close the door for entrances but will allow inside customers to continue...BB didnt!!! lol..i feel your pain!!

  3. Don't tell me you've never done it.

  4. I'm actually guilty of doing this more than once to various Petcos.  I wish Petco would stay open until 10 PM.

If you don't like it (and I wouldn't blame a retail store for doing this), at 9 PM tell people they can no longer join the cash register line and make their purchase.  Then shoo people away.

  5. Who pays your bills? Customers. With the attitude you have now, I don't see why the customers would want to go into the store you are working at anyways lol.

  6. It's not rude when the store is still open.  I do understand your frustration but that just comes with the territory.  It's kind of like going to a restaurant as long as your seated before closing you get served.  Most people would not not do that to a merchant but some will and you just have to smile and treat them just as well.

  7. It says close at 9pm. Say what you mean and mean what you say.

  8. I know how you feel. I work in a fast food setting at an outside mall and I always get people like that. The mall requires that we close at 11pm and by them I'm exhausted and all I want to do is clean the store and go home to sleep. I usually tell customers that we are closing in 5 minutes so I can only offer them these foods. If they don't like that option they more than welcomed to leave. If they like the option I am more than happy to serve them. I do not get paid to work after a 11:30pm so as soon as it is 11pm I lock the door, even if their are customers inside and I turn off some of the lights just for dramatic effect lol.

I never do it to retailers/restaurants because I know how it feels!

  9. Um, people are either retarded or they don't read signs.

  10. I worked retail for 5 years, from 4pm until the store closed at 8pm... and it never failed.  We would literally make the announcement that we were closing in 5 minutes and someone would walk through the door.

There were nights that we had closed and someone still expected us to open up for him (even though we'd already closed out the registers and put all the money in the safe for the night).

We made an exception exactly ONCE while I worked there and opened back up, but it was for a real emergency purchase (i.e. the guy's basement was flooding and the only other hardware store was 20 minutes across town.)

  11. the customers always right

people can come in any time they want its not a big deal

the fact is the store closes at 9, that doesnt mean you leave at 9

  12. I totally agree with you on that one. I work retail and I think it's really, really rude to enter a store 10 minutes to closing and spend 20 minutes browsing.  Sometimes it pays off if customers make a purchase, but for the most part they don't.  People, if you know what you want it's totally fine to come in 5 minutes before closing, get what you want, pay and leave.  Just remember: We have a freakin life too.  After working 8 hours or more on a retail floor, we just want to go home to our families, our tvs,  dinner, or just to sleep. This is a huge pet peeve of mine.  Just because we close at 9 doesn't mean we're done at 9. We have things to do, which most of the time take 30 minutes or longer. Don't be a little sh*t, have respect and make it quick if you must.

  13. they think its ok because it is ok if the stores policy is to close at nine then doors stay open until nine meaning people can come in. if you dont like your job get an education and get a better one
