Why do people lie to northerners to get them to come down here and say that it is cheaper to live in the south than the north! It so is not! I just found out that my car insurance is DOUBLE what I payed in the north. & home insurance is WAY more....guess that's what you get for moving somewhere where there are lots of theives and break ins ALL the time! Maybe it's not like this everywhere, but this has been my own personal experience. grrrr!

  1. I moved from NJ to SC and it is totally cheaper in SC.  I paid $840 for rent in SC.  The same type of place in NJ would have cost me $1600.

  2. me and my wife moved from new york   and here it was $ 4 for a pack of smokes and $2.30 for gas when we moved to west va it was $1.10 for smokes and $1.50 for gas but i got a job and they where paying $5.15 hr here in new york iam gettin $15 hr for the same job

  3. I moved to Florida from Ohio, and while I agree with you about the insurance, the taxes, groceries, utilities, and services are significantly cheaper here. My property taxes are 1/3 what they were in Ohio on a similarly valued home. Florida also has no state or local income tax which more than compensates for any salary differential.

My car insurance is about 20% higher in FL, and my homeowners about 50% higher. My utilities in FL are probably half of what they were in Ohio. So I would have to say I gave a different perspective than you

Another bonus is the fact that there are actually JOBS in Florida. LIfe in Ohio was one layoff after another. Glad to be gone from Corn h**l.

  4. Because they do not take into account that jobs pay more in the North.

I can give you an example.  Waitress at Denny's in Texas make 2.13 an hour plus tips.  It is 8.29 an hour plus tips in California.  Yes it costs more for an apt or home in CA, but on average, people earn more.

  5. i think you should move to the southwest! i live in new mexico. (las cruces). the city is growing really fast and is not too small,, but not big at all! the homes here are not very expensive compared to other places although the markets going up. and if you want to go shopping in a really big mall or do something not found here, then el paso, TX is only about 45 min. away. even thought we dont have an ocean or much special, its nice. but, we have this place called white sands. its amazing. check it out.

  6. Generally speaking, it is much cheaper to live in the southern/eastern states.  I have lived in TN, NC, GA and FL and currently live in CA.  My living expenses have almost tripled here, where in FL I owned a gorgeous home in a beautiful neighborhood on much less money.  Particularily, groceries and housing are tremendously more for way less.

As soon as we are able, we will be back in the south.
