Question:

Why do people think modern feminism is the same thing as first wave feminism?

There was a feminist here that wanted to see me praise feminism and see if I thought there was any good there.

Well, there used to be.

The first wave feminists were great. They had serious issues that needed addressing and they were completely just for doing what they did. I support their efforts 100%.

Somewhere along the way, the fight for "equal opportunity" became the fight for "equal outcome" and the way to achieve this was to give women unfair advantages in the way of legislation.

Also, the tone became increasingly hostile towards men and radicals (that are supported and praised by mainstream feminists to this day) began to run the show.

So the women's studies curriculums we see today have the "anti-male paranioa victimhood" brand of feminsm which is NOT the way feminism started and does NOT represent a fight for "equality."

Modern feminism has lost it's way. I'm afraid there's nothing good I can say about that.

  1. You make many good points.  My college is one of those with the  "anti-male paranioa victimhood" GWS curriculum you mentioned.  It's disgusting really.

  2. Let's make one thing clear: Most modern feminists still believe more in first-wave feminism than anything else. Not all modern feminists have lose their way. Case in point, most of the ones you'll encounter here.

  3. i agree with you... tho you are a dirty male pig. ;)

  4. first wave feminism was a great civil rights movement

you are quite right, the faux victim hood and hatred has become so mainstream that "liberal" feminists see it as moderate.

  5. I think a lot of modern feminists feel that they deserve affirmative action, which is a tricky issue. Modern feminists are getting way to radical to seriously represent the cause, but there is still some truth to what they say. Men usually aren't taught as kids that they will grow up and marry a woman that will take care of them financially and that they should strive to be "pretty." Granted, this has gotten a lot better over the years, but the message is still there. A lot of women feel that they've been disadvantaged from the get go because of this and therefore need compensation.

You have to understand a lot of women are just pissed off, and modern feminism is an extension of this. It's hard to deny that women have been seriously oppressed over the years and a lot of women want men to experience the same thing.
