I have been asking myself the question on why others think that having money and material things will bring them satisfactory, which is not true.

Hapiness, Love and Knowledge and many other things are not things that are attained easily regardless of the money you have. But why do people think money will lead them contentment?

  1. You're right - money can't buy the things which are most important for a happy life - lasting romantic love and self-love. I strongly believe that most people have a "base" level of happiness which will usually not change much during the course of their adult life.

People who are picky, choosy, critical and unhappy in their 30s as low-paid workers, will probably still be picky, choosy, critical and unhappy when they are a 50-year-old highly-paid employee. Basically because they have a generally "dissatisfied" or "always wanting" sort of nature, and it won't change with money or status.

At the same time, I think it's true to say that happiness for some of us is easier when we are not worried about money. Nights spent sleeping soundly and peacefully are a lot more conducive to happiness than nights spent awake and worrying about how to pay the next bill. A certain level of financial security is necessary for many of us to be happy and content.

So while money is not the "main thing", I do think it plays a part in happiness and can't be discounted as unnecessary....

  2. because out society has grown into consumers. we get hit with advertisments everywhere we go no matter if its a sign on the road or a commercial on the tv or radio. and that causes us to think that we need everything that is material to be content with our lives.

  3. The thing is, people live their lives base on more of the physical things. They're too closed minded to think about mental and spiritual things. So, money can buy everything that is physical, but nothing that is spiritual. Everyone thinks differently, and we aren't the same intelligence. There are slow people, and there are fast people. People who makes good and bad decisions, Etc. We are all different, and that makes us thinks differently.

Edit: I guess that money is a big problem among the people in general. If they don't have money problem, they can get out there and pursue more of happiness.

  4. Well depends what pleases you...and well I know it is possible to buy an education these days....

  5. Unfortunately, it can. A sad commentary on our times. All things can be purchased. Think of the mail order bride and knowledge is the most marketable thing of all. Happiness is all attitude.

  6. Money won't solve all your problems, but wouldn't you rather figure out the solutions in your limo?

  7. These people always beleive they never have enough and deserve more too.

Its the law of the masses and the mentality as a whole, its seeing the rich get away with things, have things.

Even if they saw what went on behind the closed doors of these individuals they would still want that greed.

ENOUGH money to get me and mine through the next month eases my mind considerably.

The rich do die horrible deaths too, they hurt too, they have all sorts of their own problems too.

True they might get the best of everything has to offer but who has to suffer because of that?

In this country alone our animals for meat eat more of the grain that third world countries need HUMANS need to live on.

The love of money is sad. Really sad.

  8. People have fallen in love with materialism. Things that aren't even materials are treated as such.

  9. because we were bought up that way.that if we had money we can solve anything. but more money just brings more problems

  10. because society has led them to believe so, and the powerful need to keep money in their economy to fund lies, promote hate, & murder the innocent, to thus make more & repeat. the media is another antagonist, just watch the news. but don't give up hope, you'll win in the long run. when everyone loses all that they find valuable, you'll claim whats truly important.

  11. 1. What if, say, your brother/sister was dying, and you needed money to pay for an operation. If you have it, isn't money making you happy?

    2. I appreciate happiness and love and everything, but think about it.. Our entire civilization is based on money. We go to school to get a good job and earn more money, start up businesses for money, blah blah blah. BAsically, money defines your social status

  12. Money can't buy you the sunrise or the sunset, the struggle to have more than we need consumes us and dulls or ability to rationalise, the resulting aftermath is debt.So no money doe sn't buy everything, not anything in life that counts.

  13. because most people would rather be miserable and rich than happy and poor

    i know i would!!!!!!

  14. because we live in a materialistic world where possessions are more important than people.maybe if people remembered thier tvs and cars won't be amongst the mourners at thier funerals then maybe things might change but i doubt it very much

  15. when some one wants some thing they dont think about any thing else. Then  they realize some thing they needed like love and family was alwayz there, but they dont realize it untill its gone.

  16. cuz it can?

if i was a billionaire. i would be so happy!

  17. if  you ever have no money and 100 responsibilities you will realise how dumb that sounds... once you have enough money so you can pay all your bills, treat yourself and still save lots... yeah money doesnt matter so much

and the worst thing is you can very easily forget ( or never realise if you are lucky ) just what an absolutely miserable struggle it is for the poor and low paid...

  18. those people have not "evolved". i learned to live in a way that makes me realize that money is not really what is important in life. all  those plastic people who thrive on the latest car, clothing or dog are perhaps thinking that having all that validates them. it took me a while to realize that. i used to be one of them, i guess i dropped out of the rat race just in time!

the beauty of life, our beautiful planet, finding love, sharing laughter with someone are priceless.-blurey

  19. Hey, I think we believe money will buy us everything because we have been brought up to think that. practically all of our waking moments we are bombarded with society telling us that we will be unhappy and unloved if we don't use a razor with 3 blades or if we don't have the latest phone. Also we are shown celebrities who make us feel that we need money like them in order to be happy because they have so much material possessions and they seem happy, though most of them are not happy at all it's just we are made to believe they are so, and out of fear of being lonely and unloved we wasted so much of our energy trying to compete with them to get all this junk we believe will make us happy. then to make it worse the more we try to keep up, the more impossible it becomes and so we make ourselves unhappy because we run up debts and our own unhappiness makes others perceived happiness seem even more so. also we fail to grasp that true happiness is inside us already and can be found simply in showing kindness and love to those around us. I could go on for hours but I will leave it at that. I hope this helps you :)

  20. We are living in a material world and I am a material girl.

  21. yeah, it buys just say... 95% of things!

  22. ...its their lifestyle they love and flaunt it...did you ever hear them complain...

  23. People follow their beliefs until they proven wrong.

To think happiness is hard to come by is your belief. To me it's my natural state..A friend calls it "factory settings."

  24. In this civilization, where i am the wise guy n the rest is the 'money buys everything' guy. Per se. Say if, i want to have love, i have to spend Money to... Say if, i want to have happiness, i have to spend Money to... Say if, i want to have knowledge, i have to spend Money to... Okay, thats the whole pulling/getting everything toward Me. What about giving things sincerely? Say if, i want to give love, i'll give it sincerely without expecting something IN RETURN. Say if, i want to give happiness, i'll give it sincerely without expecting something IN RETURN. Say if, i give knowledge, i'll give it sincerely without expecting something IN RETURN. So, can u imagine if people start giving sincerely to anyone, n dont expect things in return. Kinda freaky. Coz when people reach the level where giving sincerely to help other is way more important than taking. I believe we're close enough to the end of the world.

  25. Only shallow people think that. Those of us with some real grasp of what's meaningful in life don't care much about money.

As long as I can pay my bills and have enough left for some beer and a dinner out, I'm happy---because I have someone I love, who loves me, to share it with!

  26. i don't think so we can buy every thing with money but we can buy many thing with money .we can buy bed with money not good sleep,we can buy medicine with money not good health,we can't buy trust, loyalty, true love and good life partner with money so for me money is many thing but not every thing in life

  27. because people have more money than sense

  28. Money is the easy way out. Getting a lot of money is not hard to do and gives one satisfaction. The future generations are being taught that money is very impotent, more impotent than it actually is. Look at America, the answer to every problem is sue the other guy and get as much money as possible, or the show that demonstrate that people will do anything for money. The idea that is spreading is that people are willing to do "that" for money than it much lead to something really good, but it doesn't.

  29. I think it is based on their experience.

  30. Money isn't everything but if you have lots of it you wouldn't have to worry about it and you could help people which in turn would make me happy.

  31. Money buys the essentials you need to survive and have an enjoyable quality of life.  Without that, you'll be too ridden with stress and anxiety to ever focus on higher needs like love, knowledge, inner peace and other such intangibles.  Money won't lead you right to contentment, but it'll drop you off a just a couple blocks away.
