Why do people think sydney australia is our capital???

for peoples info the capital of australia is canberra it is one of the smallest citys in australia i wouldnt kno if u would even call it a city. do people think because sydney is so large and famous that it is our capital.???

Sydney is the city most mentioned and most known Australian city to people overseas. Therefore, they believe it is our Capital and no, I don't agree they're idiots. I am sure you may think other cities are the Capitals of other countries too.

mainly because of that big opera/music hall. whem somone sees that they go "yep sydney".

i also have to say its because of FINDING NEMO they use sydney alot in movies and it gets engraved in our american heads. but hey sydney is awsome and i would love to live there ur lucky ur so close

It is mostly because hardly anyone knows much about Australia who doesn't live here, and Sydney has such a large international profile - it is not a bad guess if you didn't know any better.  Seriously, most folks would not even know that Canberra existed - let alone it is the Capital of Oz.

Because it is our most well know city, It has the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Opera house and Bondi Beach to name a few and every one who thinks of Australia will think of Sydney at one point. So it stands to reason that many people think that Sydney is our Nations Capital.
