Let's see.   McCain bullied Obama to do it.   Obama did.  Made a big splash.  Republicans are pissed.  Good!

It is a good political move for him to go to Europe.  One of the weaknesses routinely cited in his candidacy has been that he has no global [non-USA] experience.  He is building his resume in that regard.  This is a smart political move ... nothing more than that  .. and speaks to the effectiveness of his political campaign approach.  However, I've been all over the world ... that does not qualify me to be pres of the U.S.
