Question:

Why do people think that Camilla will be Queen?

Having just flicked through a couple of questions relating to our Monarchy, it surprises me just how many people here in the UK are under the impression that when Prince Charles becomes King, Camilla will be his Queen.

Given that Charles is a divorcee, Camilla can never be Queen, she will have a title along the lines of "King's Consort" (like Prince Albert) - a title that recognises her relationship to/with the future King but bestows no priviledge upon her.

Do my fellow Brits really have such little understanding of their own country, it's history, laws, protocols etc? A tad embarrassing, don't you think?

  1. It will pass to Prince William

If not then the royal family may struggle with popularity

I cant see anyone wanting her as queen after 50+ years of such a historic monarch

  2. She is married to Prince Charles and he is heir to the throne.

  3. You make sense to me.  However, I do remember reading (when Charles first married Camilla) from a source that was supposed to be knowledgeable about lineage, that Camilla will be Queen and not Consort. That the royals or whoever, were now just promising she'd be consort so as to not tick folks off too much. And, she would have the full title of Queen.

But then, ya can't always believe everything ya read.

  4. King Henry VIII had like FIVE WIVES!!! each one queen, so there you have it, if it happened once, it'll happen again.+

  5. The wife of a reigning king is called a queen consort.

A potential exception to the rule of referring to the wife of the monarch as queen consort may be Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, wife of Charles, Prince of Wales. When their wedding was announced it was declared that, in the event of Charles's ascent to the British throne, Camilla would assume the title of Princess Consort and not that of Queen. Subsequent British ministerial comment during Parliamentary discussion confirmed, however, that she would necessarily retain the few legal prerogatives reserved for, and the legal title of, a British queen consort. In the other Realms such as Australia, Canada and New Zealand, there is no constitutional position as queen consort. It is merely a courtesy title.

not embarrassing just a little un-educated.

  6. I think it was Princess Micheal of Kent who said Camilla will be Queen.

  7. she is ugly enough to fit

  8. our next queen will be that kate  girl who william is on/off with. The age Her Majesty's family members live on the female side she will see out Charles, and Wills will be well into middle age before Elizabeth ermmm.........retires/departs

Elizabeth 2......the last great british monarch

  9. Well said my man.

But I`ll bet you anything you like, that you will soon get all the anti-royals on here slagging off the Royal Family.

Prepare for some s**t from these morons :-)

  10. any....ways....

  11. There is no law that says Camilla can't be queen because Prince Charles is a divorcee.  If she is married to the king, she will be the queen.  Henry VIII had six wives (not five!) and they were all queen of England.

  12. The laws state that Prince Charles will be King and Camilla will be the Queen Consort.  Hate it for ya!

  13. More importantly, why do people care?

  14. There were those folks who said Charles will never marry Camilla...

Who the h**l are going to listen to us as mere 'commoners' I bet your life she does become queen.

What the public feel is of little consquence.

Look at the out pouring of greif when Diana died...they only showed their emotions because THEY were litterally forced to.

Charles will Please himself...after all he has always done.

The mystery surrounding Diana's death has not been solved & I don't think it ever will be. Our royal family has ensured that.

  15. Law, protocol and history are immaterial. Whenever a situation arises for the first time (like the abdication of Edward VIII) "constitutional experts" mull it over to decide what the constitution requires, since our constitution is largely unwritten. This means they can simply do whatever suits the public mood at the time.

There is no major problem in royal history with divorce or second marriages. Henry VIII divorced, was head of the Church of England and married six times. All his wives were queen. The wife of a king is merely a queen consort, not like our present queen, who is a queen regnant.

The reason why men in grey suits told Edward VIII he had to choose between his woman and the throne was nothing to do with her being a divorcee. It was simply because she was American, and the establishment would never have tolerated a queen from a republic.

  16. I believe that she will be King's Consort. She is a divorcee, she was an adultress and therefore deemed unsuitable for the title of Queen.

  17. It really doesn't matter what title we call her by, she will be the wife of the King which means Queen.

Does it really matter that much what she is called since the monarchy have no power over anyone?
