Why do people think that God can "save" me?

ok, so i was raised a catholic, but now i never go to church. and people always say the lord can save me. but, i don't need saving, i'm perfectly happy. people say that i only feel this way because i was raised badly.

The fact you are happy shows your parents went wrong somewhere!

When they say God can save you they say "Believe in God and you'll be happy" and they can't believe you are happy without God so they come up with that excuse.

I think they are talking about after this fleshly life is over. They are saying that God will save your spirit. I dont think that its up to anyone to comment on how you were raised, after all you have free will to choose to follow God or not.

You know, my most humbling experience was realizing that to God, I'm like a 2 yr old, and compared to him, I know nothing.  Not only that, but because He's God, He does not need us at all.  There is absolutely NOTHING I can give God that he needs.

I am COMPLETELY dependent on God.  100%.

Sure--your Mom and Dad and whoever raised you.  No matter how terrible or great your Mom and Dad are/were, you were 100% dependent on them for your life.  You owe them your life--completely!

Were you able to care for yourself at 6 months? 1 year? 3 years? You were 100% dependent on someone to care for you.  No matter how bad or good they were, your existence today depended on those that raised you.

That's humbling--nothing you do today, no amount of peace or comfort or money or talent or power that you have today can change the fact that you had to depend  100% on someone else.

Now, if you can swallow that bit of humble pie, it's not to hard to make the stretch that we are completely dependent on God.  We are like children to him, and if we do what he says, He can help us.  

If we don't, then He can't help us, and the dangers of the material and spiritual world can destroy us.

It's not about God "saving" you. That's the human interpretation of it. God is about your surrender to him to be loved, to be completely reliant on him, to believe in and have faith in him, and to put your trust in him completely.

I was raised Catholic and left, I came back at 29 and now love it.

Maybe your like me, you might find your way back someday.

My neighbour is dieing from cancer, they told her she would not see this week, but thankfully she is still here,I'm telling you this because she is a picture of dignity and has accepted this with grace, she trusts God now more than ever because she knows she will enter eternal life.

You may be happy now but you know someday you will face this and then you will want that same assurance.

Salvation is an issue that ultimately deals with death.  If you are OK with dying and not knowing or caring what will become of you after death, then I guess you are correct that you have no need of being saved.  If the idea of death is at all disconcerting to you, then perhaps you need saving after all.

To be saved is basically the same as crossing over from death to life. You see when all men and women die we will fall asleep until the time of the end. In the end God will raise all of us from the dead. Some will be raised to receive rewards and eternal life, others will raise to receive punishment and eternal death. There are only 2 choices. Either you follow Jesus or you follow the devil. Those who follow Jesus will receive eternal life. And those who follow the devil will receive eternal h**l. There is no nuetral inbetween. One has to make a decision. I have received signs that the time is near. Jesus has rescued me from death. And I will share this with others as much as I can. You need Jesus otherwise you get the devil. Who will you choose?

Saving from h**l? I don't think people realize exactly how much trouble they're in for if they reject God.

God saves you from the evil desires that are default to man. God saves you from the consequences of those desires, and God brings you to a place of peace and happiness, in this life, and in the next.
