  1. Because it sounds Asian.

  2. In the 1920 census, there were 22 persons with this name who gave their place of birth as Hungary.. so I'll assume you know you descend from one of those (you may not be sure which one).   I also see a number of persons with other places of birth, and some Black persons, who clearly will not be from Hungary.

If your ancestor is from Hungary, then that is what makes it correct for you.  You could grab a free trial at ancestry.com and pick up those census files.. they can tell you a lot about your ancestors, including when they immigrated.

A lot of persons get very confused on what they believe a name SOUNDS like.

  3. "Futo" fits the pattern of Japanese names; short, simple syllables and it ends in a vowel. Observe:

    Ya-ma-ha

    Ka-wa-sa-ki

    Fu-ji-mo-to

It is rare in the US (And anywhere outside of Hungary, I suspect), so people take a guess based on the pattern.

You asked why. You didn't ask if it was right, or how to stop them, or if it was silly to do so. All you asked is why. I told you why.

  4. i agree with the guy above me, the thing is, fudo sounds like japanese.

there character are all like, ha ba s**+...ect

and its quite short for a eauropean name.
