I wouldn't say that it isn't music.  It can be quite rhythmic, although, the rhythms can at times lack diversity/progression, almost like techno music.  Also, sometimes rap can lack melody.  Some might even go as far as to say that it isn't music because the lyrics are often the main focus, which aren't sung, but rapped.  That seems pretty narrow minded to me.  Flamenco was originally music of just beats, but the beats were more diverse and progressive...  Kind of like what one might hear coming out of a tribe in the jungle, or something.  It would be interesting to see rap artists go back to those roots, or even take note on latin beats.  Here in Puerto Rico, I've noticed them using the reggaeton beat, although, I feel that also lacks progression/diversity.

That's really the only complaint I have, which goes for techno too.  They don't seem to put any energy into making a song that progresses.  Nothing's wrong with looping, as long as you know how to make the loops progress.  I'm not talking about the changes in the song, but what leads to those changes.

The point of rap is the beat and the rhymes while the background music is used to make it more interesting. What people have against rap is that the music is the same it just repeats the same music.

But this totally wrong cause Rap is best art in the world!

I think it came from the fact that RAP is always compared to HIP HOP, RAP is a spawn of hip hop lacking most of the time one of many key elements of HIP HOP. "The art of storytelling" is one of the many elements often neglected or not required at all in RAP. So then you have people that came from that orginal silver era of HIP HOP making those comments like that of your question.

rap is nothing but the rap highlights the words which are important and which are unexpressed words directly they are hidden with the help of rap...! so, most of the people they don't luv rap..

i guess because the beats are (generally) manufactured not by live instruments, rappers don't use instruments, and they don't sing, so it doesn't involve notes and music theory sh*t like scales and cadence and blah blah blah.
