The question is not whether the temperature of the globe has increased, but is man primarily responsible, and most important of all, if left unchecked will this warming become catastrophic.

Fact:  co2 is a greenhouse gas.

Fact:  increasing co2 will cause temperatures to rise.  All climate skeptics acknowledge this fact.  The IPCC says this increase will be about one degree over the next 100 years.  

Where skepticism comes in, is when they say that this initial increase in temperatures will be amplified many times over to cause catastrophic warming.

Well, ultimately its due to propaganda by special interests who have deliberaely put out false information.  But as to why some people are fooled---

The people who continue to claim  there is a "debate"  (other than the paid propagandists) don't understand the differeence between arguements based on values (e.g. politics, religion, etc.) and arguements based on empirical evidence.  Overwhelmingly, they are part fo the social group we term the "religious right."  They've been indoctrinated to believe that their belief system is equivalent to fact and that science is jsut a different (andto them, immoral) ideology.

That lackof understanding has been manipulated by specialinterests into a rhetoric that claims "all views should be heard" (ironically, an example of the "cultural/secular relativism they are so quick to condemn in anyone but themselves). You see the same rhetoric otu of the same people about evolution and other empirical topics that conflict with their religous doctrine.

The reality of curse is that politics, values, etc. are outside the province of science. Important as they are,you can't "prove" that a thing is good or bad, or that a particular political belief is "right" or "wrong."  

Science is different in a fundamental way--it is limited to addressing questions that CAN be answered by empirical evidence. And once the evidenceis in, there is no longer a debate.

The people (msot of them) misled by the propaganda aren't trying to be obnoxious. They simply have been brainwashed--and lack an understanding of what things like science and politics are and how they work.

because there's money involved.

and if there's money involved, it's political.

and if it's political, someone stands to make, or lose, a lot of money.

so there's proponents and opponents.

and facts are not what's important.

what's important is  WHO HAS THE BEST LAWYER.

or who has the BEST ADVERTISING AGENCY.

and obviously the best lawyer, or advertising agency will be had by those that stand to make the most money.

Is the Earth getting warmer, or colder? It depends on who you ask, I suppose. Can mankind control/affect the temperature of the Earth? NO.

Did GOD create the Earth? According to the Bible, yes. Did GOD create Man(kind)? Yes. Would GOD be stupid enough to give US the ability to destroy the Planet?(HE, has fore-knowledge, according to the Bible) If GOD knew WE would destroy the Planet, why would HE still create US?

I don't think GOD is stupid at all. Furthermore, this hoax, called Global Warming, is just fear-mongering by "junk scientists",& Al Gore!!

If it were fact, you could cite your source.  The leading experts are guessing, though they FEEL 90% sure man might be the cause.  THAT'S a fact, published by the IPCC.

Natural earth cycle. the earth is doing 3 major things at the moment.

#1 the rotation is slowing down. Has anyone heard of a "leap second"? They added one on this year. It is always slowing down since nothing is in perpetual motion.

As it's slowing down, as all maleable things do that are not in motion in a vacuum, the earth is trying to form a more perfect sphere. Causing the earthquakes.

#2 the earths magnetic feild is weakening, I forget the measurements at the moment but 50 years ago it was a 6.0 (whatever that is) but now it's at like 4.3. That number is the measurement of it's strength. (don't quote me on that last number, it's been a while since I've been at the nasa site) The magnetic feild is what pulls the suns radiation around the earth to the poles. This is what causes the Northern lights. Weaker the magnetic feild, the weaker the barrier from what heats the earth up is. Causing it to be warmer, with more violent storms. Also heating up the crust to cause movement in the crust from expansion, also causing earthquakes and possibly a volcano or 2. Nasa had this satelite that flew over the earth and took motion pictures with a thermal camera. There is a very, very big volcano building under China, Something like 5 times the size and power of Yellowstone. Which until recently was considered the biggest, and a global killer.

#3 Well three is really more the sun than the earth. But the sun runs in cycles. It gets a hotter temperature and then it cools and then repeats. Like a heartbeat but much slower obviously. It is supposed to be in a period of time where the temperature is dropping, but it is raising instead.

But it's nothing to worry about (except for maybe the rotation slowing down, if you think about it. Something had to start us spinning to begin with right? That means something flew by us with a gravitational force that caused us to spin for hundreds of thousands of years. Since we are not in perpetual motion, something has to spin us again like that. What would happen to our civilization if #1 it did, or #2 it didn't?) The temperatures during the times of rome were much greater than they are even today, so we will survive this "global warming" that has very little to do with us.

How much carbon do you think a volcano releases? How many cars driving how many miles would that take to equal 1 volcano? Think about it. There is nothing that is burning in your car that isn't burning in a volcano.

So in conclusion, yes it's a scam. There are 100's of thousands of scientists who have signed a petition that says there is NO scientific evidence that supports the humans are causing this warming.

I do think we need to stop using oil as a means for transportation though. Kick the legs out of the oil industry and stomp on thier nuts when the fall.

You sure ,where did our present supply of fossil fuel come from. Fossil plants not animal. At present the plants take in CO2 and recycle the O2 and the C is recycled into fossil fuel.

To state that global warming is a fact is arrogant. Scientist do not agree on this. Also many more scientist even some who agree warming is occurring do not believe it is man causing it.

  If the experts don't agree how can anyone make a definitive answer. People choose what they want to believe. People who support the theory do so because they feel better about themselves and think they are better people because they care. Despite all of man's efforts to stop global warming over the last 20 years not one thing has changed. Is man causing it? Probably not. Can man do anything to stop it? Absolutely not.  

  Despite all the efforts by ALgore, his carbon footprint increased by 10% over last year. That should tell you that man can't change this.

The issue is probably moreso who/what is responsible for global warming. Some say man-made, some say natural.

Of course, it clearly is natural, as the earth has warmed and cooled many, many times during the course of history. In fact, during the last glacial period, the  Laurentide ice sheet covered much of the United States, such as the Great Lakes area and New England. Parts of these areas were covered by ice thousands of feet thick! The maximum extent of ice was around 16,000 BC. Starting around 16,000 BC, the earth warmed rapidly, and this tremendously thick ice melted.

Of course, people lived on the earth in 16,000 BC, but I don't think they were driving SUVs. :)

The global warming is fact but the cause is the sun, not man's puny efforts. We still should clean up our act and get solar and wind as alternate power sources to fossil fuels and stop polluting our environment
