Since when are people assuming that marine infantry is better and tougher than the army? For the infantry the both spend 13 weeks at boot camp followed by additional training and every battle in Iraq there has been both army and marine units. Now I respect the Marines and I respect the Army. This nation is at war and Marines and Soldiers are fighting side by side with both courage and bravery but when the troops come back home the public acts as if the marines had it tougher! WHAT THE ****?!?!? Can somone shed some light on this cause i dont understand.

  1. The Army's infantry training is boot camp and infantry in that 13-14 weeks.

Marines have always had that cocky attitude. Thats just who they are. Recruit training instills pride in Country and Corps..With that said.

Marines go through 13 weeks of basic training that involves water survival, Marine Corps martial arts training, tougher pt and they qualify out to 500meters with their rifle. After 13 weeks of recruit training, they still go to the school of infantry for infantry training.

Both branches are quite capable..but your average Marine grunt has more training than his Army counterpart.

  2. What Steve said. There is a rivalry between all of the services. Bottom line is that neither one is capable of winning a war by themselves.

Boomer, that's not true. In Desert Storm, ARMY Apache helicopters were the first to see combat. In Afghanistan, ARMY SF were the first on ground. And in Iraq the ARMY'S 3rd ID lead the charge to Baghdad.

  3. Because the Marine Corps is always the first to go in and the last to leave.

  4. "If anyone could be a Marine,it would not be the Marine Corps."-Ronald Reagan

Marines and army infantry are 2 different animals with 1 goal - kill.

Army boot camp is NOT 13 weeks. It's 8. Marine Corps boot camp is 13 weeks. Followed by 2 weeks MCT(Marine Combat Training),then MOS(military occupational specialty) school, except for grunts(Marine Infantry). They go to SOI (School of Infantry).

There is no question as to why Marines feel they are a stronger force to be reckoned with more than the Army - it's because they are. The Marine Corps breed killers. The Army breeds soldiers.

Until ANYONE puts their feet on those yellow footprints and marches across thet parade deck on Parris Island,South Carolina and be called "Marine", you will ever understand.

  5. I think you hear the beer bellies and wannabees going at it. Now there is a camaraderie in uniform that YOU ( the wannabees and yourself)obviously don't understand.

    Terms of Service Compliance:

Not better, son.  BETTER trained straight out of BOOT vs out of Basic.

Next to Marine Corps Boot Camp, Army Basic Training is the most physically intensive. FYI: The Army's 9 weeks is not equal to the 13 weeks of a Marine Boot camp.

We don't have time to delve into ALL of the reasons, but I will tell you having been around BOTH most of my life, in battle I want either of them (Army or Marines) with me.   I do prefer Marines but that's me. The Difference:  Esprit De Corps

Like my daddy, a retired ARMY Top Kick) said: At the Chosin Res in December 1950, he was quite happy to see Chesty Puller and his Marines because his own ARMY unit commander had bugged (retreated) out and left my father's unit to perish in that frozen wasteland. To their great credit, the US Marines trudged out with the ARMY's wounded and dead on that long march.

  6. err isn't Marine boot camp longer than Army? Though Army was only 10 weeks.

    Beside just friendly stuff:

Army make fun at us saying we use their old equipment, Marines make fun at them saying they use them better.

Army say Marines are stupid, Marines say look who's the one accepting people with GED.

Army say they serve longer tours, Marines say they're the first ones in.

The only thing they cant counter is:

Marines don't salute to officer in combat, Army does, guess who's the sniper hits? And also, in the Marines, we should know our leaders.

    Marines have better uniforms.

Marines can roll up their MARPAT selves.

    MARPAT isn't faded like ACU.

In the Marines, leaders is anyone who can take up the initiative. Army is by rank.

  7. All branches make jokes at the others' expense. That's all.

You do have to remember that the Marines do technically have it harder because they're first in, last to leave, and don't have the kind of funding and therefore equipment that the other branches, including the Army, have.

We all serve different purposes and we all need each other to help us fight and win.

  8. It's a friendly competition.  That's all.  Army guys love to crack jokes at the Marines, while they love to crack jokes at the Army.  I'm former Army and my brother-in-law was a Marine.  We constantly give each other a hard time.  There's really no hardships between the two branches.

  9. there just more popular, its like saying why everyone love superman?

  10. First off I just wanted to point out that Army is 14-15 week OSUT for Infantry.

I think we are all missing the point here though, it looks like he's talking about the media and the public's reaction, i.e, more kudos to Marines.

It was said here better before, but if I can recall correctly, Marines have the best PR (Public Relations) Department of all the branches through out the years. That's why in the public's minds, and even the media and alot of movies, it's mostly about Marines. In the minds of the public, every Marine is 8ft tall, never runs out of bullets, and always climbs the tallest mountain ranges in the world.
