Why do people think they can buy a golf game???

As a golf professional, most golfer fall into two categories. They undervalue the importance of equipment or they overvalue the importance of equipment.  New great equipment will not take you from an 18 to a 9, but that new updated driver might give you 10 more yards.  It's one part of the complex equation that is golf.

You gotta have a decent swing, but we golfers will spend the cash on new equipment if we think it'll help lower our scores a bit.

They think that they don't have to work at golf to get better. Don't get me wrong, nice clubs make a difference over old, cruddy clubs. But a good golf game comes from the skills within. I bet Tiger (or probably any other Tour pro) could use 50's equipment and still beat an 8 handicap.

Golf is a more complex game than most people give it credit. There are absolutely unlimited variables in the game, and because of this, no two courses or rounds are the same. There is an extremely high level of strategy, concentration, and precise physical execution necessary. People just don't appreciate how difficult the game can be, and how much commitment and practice it really takes to perform well.
