Unless it is harmful to another human being, why do people feel they have the right to judge how other's live their lives?

This is something I get very frustrated about, a lot! I may or may not agree with some of the things say, Paris Hilton does, but as far as I'm concerned if she's doing what she wants to do then that's cool, whatever! It's her life and I don't see it as my duty to judge her at all.

g*y marriage - No biggy as far as I'm concerned! Marriage in general? Your choice! Abortions - You decide it's your body! The list goes on.

I just find it so repulsive people think they are such martyrs when it comes to other people's lives.

What's the go?

  1. If you are so worried about judging... then why are you judging others now?

(Only 2 thumbs down.. I love the way I'm being judged now by people who say it is wrong to judge... oh my how we talk out of both sides of our mouths)

  2. I’m going to have too agree with nmlapid to a certain degree. Honestly we all judge people in some form or another. We only start to run into complications with judging when people’s feelings, thoughts, emotions, and personal beings are either disrespected or harmed in the process.

Because if you think about it, it’s a criminals choice to break the law, but we as a society judge them both morally and legally for doing so. We judge people to who take bribes in the National sports leagues (that just Un-American to most of us), we judge people who participate in abortions, we judge people of other races based on stereotypes, and we judge people who’re labeled as adulators. We have no right to poke our noise into the business of celebrities and athletes, but we do so on a daily basis, forming our opinions of them as people based on what we’ve heard or seen.  So everyone is guilty of passing judgment on someone at some point in time in their lives.

But I completely understand where you’re coming from, and why you felt the need to post such a question. I see a lot of blaming, finger pointing and judgment casting in this forum a lone from people who may or may not have their own lives together much less commenting on someone else’s. So I whole-heartily agree with you that people really need to start minding their own business, and stop passing judgment on a specific group of people as a whole based on the actions of a few. It’s amazing how everyone can tell you what someone else is doing wrong in their lives (and what they need to do to fix it); but can’t even “clean up their own back yards” so to speak. I refer to this old saying that goes “when you point your finger in judgment, you have three more pointing back at you”.

  3. We're still monkeys even though we've evolved. It's hard wired in us to have a social "pecking" order. This is only possible if we judge each other, to see where we can fit and make others fit in the hierarchy. That's why.

  4. Many people have delusions about their "rights".

  5. How would you draw the line anyway between judging and forming opinions?  Everyone has the right and the tendency to form strong opinions.  Even you do it.. this whole question is a case in point. :)

I think we can't help judging, and it's generally ok, what's important is to draw a line between being judgemental and intolerant.  We can disagree with and even judge other people, but we should make at least a small effort to understand them first if possible, and should never be hostile towards them for their beliefs.. though I admit that may be hard for certain issues we feel may feel emotional about, like abortion.

I too believe that we should examine issues through a "live and let live" point of view.. if they're not hurting anyone with their beliefs, then just live and let live! :)  people need to remember this especially with regard to issues like g*y marriage...  although again with abortion one can make the argument that abortion DOES hurt someone.. the fetus. so yeah, you're always gonna have your vocal martyrs.  :)

lmao, the only person who could be considered a martyr when it comes to abortion is the fetus =)

    Precious little martyrs^^

But for your question I feel I have the right to think and judge everything and everyone how I see fit.  Just as you have the right to do the same.

  7. it's a natural thing to do, i don't agree with people judging other people but i know i do it without even realizing

i do agree with you, but lots of things in life you need to judge in a sense, e.g you need to judge someone to decide who gets your vote, to run your country, you judge restaurants, you judge music,

Its build in our genes to judge lol

I still get judged by my family!

    ha ha!

    xx
