  1. Rethink you question because that is a long way too walk.

  2. My 15 minute drive to work was 14 miles....  Would you walk 28 miles everyday, I had to be to work at 5:45am!  At an extremely fast pace it would roughly take 4 hours in the morning so I'd have to leave at 1:45am, then leave work at 2:30pm, get home at around 6:30pm.

  3. A "short drive" of 15 minutes in many places consists of traveling seven or eight miles. Do you think it makes sense to walk 14-16 miles round-trip and carry groceries and whatnot?

  4. Where I live hoss it's three miles to the grocery store on a road that isn't safe for walking. Traffic will run you down. While it's  only a few minutes drive that's over an hour's walk round trip and can't carry much. For department type stores it's 10 to 12 miles away and we don't have bus service.

  5. I acknowledge that it just isn't practical to walk everywhere all the time.  I do not fit into the "fat" couch potato group. Personally I do walk if practical and if not, I will plan my trip to do as much while I'm out so that I don't have to turn around and drive downtown again.  In the Cold Canadian winter, that 15 minute drive can turn into an hour or more when you consider you have to scrape windows, shovel snow etc, so in the interest of saving TIME, I'll just dress warm and hoof it and often be back before I would have even left had I taken the car. Our car only gets used three or four times a week because of this.

  6. Most cities don't have the infrastructure suitable for walking, such as paths or even sidewalks.

As much as I would love to walk to work (15 minute drive at 40mph), it is more than 5 miles away, on a street with no sidewalks through the majority of it. Even at my quick walking pace (15 minute mile), it would take me 1 hour and 15 minutes to get there. You have a great idea that might work for small distances, but unfortunately, too many places aren't walking-friendly.

Workout incentives can be successful, such as reducing the cost of a gym membership, or incorporating gyms into the workplace. Even just one-hour of cardio per week will improve your life (although I prefer to do an hour workout 3 to 5 times per week).

  7. cuz most of us are also dragging kids, groceries, and everything else in the car with us. I can see me walking to the store with my 3 kids...hmmmm...NOT

  8. The way this is written I have no idea of what you are trying to ask.

If you are asking why someone would drive a vehicle 15 minutes instead of walking, there are plenty of good reasons.

    1. Weather: right now the wind chill is -7 and the roads are ice covered.

    2. Averaging 30mph  you can drive 7.5 miles in 15 minutes.  Not an easy task in the best of conditions.

    3. If someone is sitting watching T.V. then they are not using their vehicle at all.

    4. If you go somewhere to pick up merchandise remember that it has to be carried home.

  9. You must be too young to drive if you think a 15 minute drive is a short one. Most of our lives are busy enough and  a 15 minute drive would save over an hour's time used to walk. Sure walking is good and healthy for you, but I have a family to take care of and enjoy spending as much free time as possible with them.
