  1. oh my god, are you serious? i think everything about ancient greece and rome and persia and all that is just fascinating. it's always interested me, it's incredible how 2000 years ago those people managed to do so many things, how they achieved so many things, it's incredible.

and also i think that if it wasn't for the greek all those years ago, who knows where we would have been. we have to admit that they are responsible for many of the things that are now a part of everyday life, so they deserve all the respect they can get and they should be extremely proud of their past, of their ancestors.

and the greek gods are very very fascinating. i remember when i first read about them, i think it was back it 5th grade, i was just fascinated. i wanted to know more and more, i thought the greek heroes were boring, but the gods are just fantastic, they are a rare mix of supernatural combined with human, they're very powerful but they still have feelings just like any human, they make mistakes, they get jealous etc. and that's their charm

  2. To study the past is to understand the present and future

we study the greek gods because it shows us the way people used to think.  These weren't just stories to these people, they believed in the Pantheon every bit as much as today's christians believe in god.  It was their way of life.  To study this and see the way they intereacted with their environment and religion we can get a better understanding of the people of our past and maybe understand ourselves a little better.

  3. It is called culture.  Try it sometime, if you haven't already burned all the books.

  4. In this Age of Hype that we live in, we have much to learn about life by simply studying Greek mythology and the classics.

The earliest Greeks spent their time trying to find out what life is all about in the sense that they were concerned with how the world came into being, why life in this world is like it is.  They were trying to understand an objective reality outside themselves.  More pressing (in terms of human concerns) were questions of behavior....how should we treat each other?  What is the best way for people to live together?  Are right and wrong moral absolutes or do they just reflect social customs?

These questions form the essence of Greek mythology and we are still looking for the answers today, aren't we??
