African americans have always overwhelming voted democrat. Obama being on the ticket has inspired blacks to get out in vote and it was like icing on the cake, but to imply that blacks would likely flock over to the republican side or something is a ridiculous thing to say. Its just like woman voters with hillary, she has inspired more woman to vote but the majority of her voters are voting for her b.c of the issues she represents.... Its bad to compare blacks voting for a black democrat when blacks have always voted for white democrats in the past to women voting for palin... the categories just dont match up.

heres a link that shows how minorities voted in past elections:

  1. the categories do match up, because there are many women that are in the middle that vote for the female, just like there are many blacks in the middle that will choose Obama over McCain even though their views may be more conservative. Don't fool yourself into thinking that everyone follows the issues and goes any deeper than the basic platforms they get every 4 years from news following the election process before their sitcoms start.  The sad fact is that there are tons of women that will vote for McCain because of the female VP and there are tons of blacks that will vote Obama just because he is Black.  If you really follow the issues and study the candidates on both sides, then you are truely in the minority.  The Majority of voters are surprisingly uninformed and will vote based on gut check and sexual or racial preference in this election

  2. The difference is that there were two Democrat candidates running--Hillary, the more qualified white female and Obama.  Obama received over 90% of the Black vote.***

  3. Because it's true....

  4. Your argument doesn't hold up. Ninety four percent of registered black voters voted for a fellow black, over a better qualified White woman in the Democratic Primaries. Both were Democrats running on similar platforms.^

  5. IDK

Sarah Palin is just the most awesomest. she is what any woman of any race wish they could be. I just think John McCain is like so s**y for choosing her.

  6. I would not compare blacks voting for obama as women voting republican because of Palin. Its not about percentages, nor can the argument be made for women changing parties to vote for her by just using cold numbers.

I think that women are left in a somewhat of a quandary. Hillary would have been there choice over an inexperienced male for this women who was supposed to win on the democrat side. She had the momentum in the end, and the total votes were very close, and only because two states were disenfranchised. They gave it to this dweeb instead. Now comes along a talented individual who is a women, and given a VP status could very well become the first women president. I think she deserves more respect than Hillary got from the democrats. Don’t you.

  7. Palin isn't running for president.  I'm not voting for Palin.  I'm voting for McCain.  The candidates are McCain and Obama.

  8. I see no parallels. Obama is a historic choice, not only due to his youth, but also his race.  To me, Obama represents the true American dream.  If you are Asian, Latino, Black, mixed race, Jewish or the member of any minority group you can run for and possibly be elected to president, because Americans care more about the issues than the someone's racial descent.   If Obama was a black candidate but with the political leanings of Clarence Thomas, I doubt many blacks would vote for him.

Similarly, I think intelligent women respect Hilary Clinton's drive, determination and dedication to the issues they think are important. Governor Palin won't connect Hilary;s supporters because her positions are so far from Hilary's

  9. nuff said...thanks!!

  10. I think it would be more useful of you try positing  a little mind experiment:

Suppose the GOP nominated a far-right winger like Alan Keyes.  And suppose the Democrats nominated a generic white candidate.  I am confident that the vast majority of black people would vote for the white Democrat and not the black Republican.  Black people do not vote for right-wingers because they KNOW right-wingers are never for them.

  11. Thanks for the article  ...quite informative.

  12. to me it seems like people would want to stay with their "team" if you understand what I'm saying. People assume that because Obama is Black then the blacks will go to him and they assume that because McCain has a woman on his side that we women will flock to him to be with this female partner...I know i"m not making sense but think about high school how the school divided itself up with race. There would be a black group, Mexican group, Asian group, and a white group. I suppose they assume it's kinda like that.

  13. I hate that so much! I vote for whoever I think is right for the job. Not because of race or s*x.  I know it don't answer your question but I just wanted to say that. Also I thought it was sooo obvious why a woman was chose on the republican side lol. Im a woman and it still didnt change my vote.

    *Vote Obama*  :)

  14. Obama plays the RACE CARD all the time but not he has been trumped by McCain playing the RED BLOODED AMERICAN CARD. I love it.

  15. And what's more, blacks did not overwhelmingly support black Democratic candidates who tended to be poor candidates to run in general for the office of president. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton were both Democrats, but didn't even get much support from the black community who didn't take them seriously.

I think it is the same thing with Palin. I think if McCain bothered to pick a serious VP candidate with real credentials and ideas for this country as VP, alot more woman would seriously consider voting across party lines. But no woman wants the first woman to represent her in the oval office being a joke candidate. If McCain/Palin succeeded, it would be like adding mortar to the cracked glass ceiling, as people in the future would have a harder time taking female candidates for president seriously.

  16. I DON'T KNOW.  It's bogus...

  17. Hillary inspired me to vote.....

to register and always vote republican.

  18. Because those same people that say that truly believe that women and minorities don't actually have the ability to make rational, reasoned decisions.  Instead, they all (and as a woman I fall into the they category) are stupid and will just flock to the person that looks most like them.  Don't believe all the propaganda you hear, from any political party!

  19. Personally,I'm voting for the better candidate,McCain.  I don't think as a group.  I think as an individual.

  20. I'm not sure. Perhaps it's empowering to finally vote for someone who isn't an old white guy. It's pretty much been like that for the past 200+ years.

I think women would more likely to support a women in office, because it's never really happened before. Except for Geraldine Ferrero.

And obviously black citizens for the same reason.

I think what irks me in a situation like this is that people are letting the candidates s*x and race get in the way of what they really feel about them as presidential candidates. Do they support their issues. Do they have the same values. I hope people aren't going to vote simply on how they look, instead of how well they would lead a country.

  21. How many black women do you think would vote for Palin?
