They're probably afraid that the person's behavior will some how reflect negatively on them.  It's kind of like when parents apologize for their children's behavior.  It's okay if your kid is 5; not so okay if they're 30.

Friendship. Love, Sympathy or just trying to help and give a second chance, just because some one has done something that may be wrong does not always mean it was intentional,

And others, for no reason other than to do it.
