Why do people use Obamas fight the smear website to defend presidential issues?

Question

For example someone says "Obama did not support the war and wanted the USA pulled out in defeat" then another person says "On Obamas website it says he never said that". When this website has no official credentials and was set up to fight so called rumors that could be true and probably are if there is a whole website set up to fight them. Why can't they ever provide researched responses from at least blogs or official newspaper articles?
