Why do people use ear stuff on helicopter, can't they talk without it?

  1. the engine noise is so loud that you can't hear each other.


  2. The engine is just too loud, so you wouldn't be able to hear anything the person beside you is saying.

  4. By "ear stuff" I presume you mean headsets.  They are not necessary on all helicopters, but they are a good idea on the noisier ones.  Headsets provide protection against hearing loss, and provide clearer communication by intercom in a high-noise environment.
