Why do people use their back door instead of front door in Sheffield?

It seems to be the norm in the terraced houses in Sheffield to use the back door instead of the front door. The house I have recently moved into goes as far as to have the letter box in the back door and the path to my front door bricked up!

1. Some ppl belive front doors are reserved for guest, major activities...

2. A logic is that front door give access to living room, main corridor usually, n in most cases further away from kitchen or the stairs..so we use backdoor!

3. Moms asked us to use backdoor to keep  her nickel living room off our muddy shoes, and school bags or whatever we carrying and not to dump in on the sofas...

4. Backdoor is usaaly smaller than front, so more convenient!

5. Backdoor is also a way to be discreet about

walking in and out...may be ppl are just mroe conservative!

I don't live in Sheffield, but we pretty well know that anyone coming to our front door is a stranger!!
