  1. its just a stereotype or label. ignore it. its like saying someone is gothic, punk, prep, or emo or something. ignore it. just be you.

  2. yeah but its not 'people' who say it. its not people sayin it to them, its them sayin about themselves, if u get me.

  3. Because a lot of people have their heads up their ***'s and are stereotypical.

    =]

    I don't do that.

  4. I'm guessing because that's how people are sometimes brought up to be.

And if they show black people on the TV or something, it's usually in a bad neighborhood or something.

    You know?

But I used to live in the ghetto...but my definition of ghetto is a neighborhood where a "poorer" class lives.

I mean growing up, we didn't have much money, so yeah, we kinda lived in a crappy house.

  5. in the immortal words of a friend. NOT MINE IN ANY WAY. "Because no one on the Supreme Court will die, I will just have to tell you some stories of and thoughts about racial sensitivity. As suspected, black people are up first, errrr pardon, "African Americans". Need I firstly point out that no black person born here is from Africa, on which accord it is mostly impossible to be born in 2 places at once. So why are they formally called African American? Correctness? Pride? No, because some pisshead decided that it sounds better than black, so they went to the government and bauled their ******* eyes out until Uncle Sam said that African American is more correct and less offensive. Another irk of mine is the word ******. Yes, I said it, sue me for damages. The funny thing with that word being that it is ok for a blacks to verbally beat themselves to death with such a distasteful word, but when a white person says it, well now it is just "hurtful" and "racist" and it "damages black people everywhere". BITE ME! Another example is BET, or Black Entertainment Televison, which is a channel designed specifically for black people to watch. However, should there ever be a WET, or White Entertainment Television, then its only real purpose would be to "keep the black man down" or to "hate together". BITE ME AGAIN, JUST NOT ON THE SAME SPOT! And don't even dare get me started on reparations, lest my head explode due to pissed-offed-ness." once again NOT MY WORDS

  6. i think it is because of the influence rap music has had on our society... teens hear rappers rapping about the hood and ghetto and automatically think that every black person is from the ghetto or hood or stereotype all black people based on what the rappers say.

  7. I have never heard a person say that about a black person.  Except on TV.  I think you watch too much TV.

  8. Just because people are rude and have maybe seen one neiborhood that's bad, and mostly blacks...That all are.

  9. People are extremely stereotypical. I'm white so I can see what you mean. It's totally uncalled for. It's like teenage pregnancy..very stereotypical. I wish things would change but I guess everyone has their own opinions. I don't think that way.

  10. Because those people are stupid and need to stop stereotyping.

  11. It is just stereotyping or a label, there's not much we can do about this.

One of my best best friends lives in a mainly African American neighborhood in the city and goes to school on a scholarship. At school she is like the rest of us: preppy, well-mannered, and educated.

Out of school she uses "street talk" like: hood, bangin', peeps, da (instead of the), n' (instead of and), dat (instead of that), kicks (instead of shoes), crib (instead of home), etc..

People who use street talk are usually stereotyped as Ghetto.

I've asked her why she talks like that outside of school and she laughed and told me that she would get teased if she talked very educated and well-mannered, which I still don't understand how that is a bad thing.

    Hope I answered your question,

    Catherine

p.s. I place things in this category because there are people my age here too. They should make this it's own section outside of Pregnancy&Parenting.

  12. um yeah im 14 and mixed, but ppl say that because a lot of black ppl are like that or act lkie that (not to be racist) im not but ppl how go to my old shool r......~xoxo ally*

  13. Its because of the way SOME dress and the rap music SOME listen to the way SOME talk with improper grammer and all the "slang" SOME use. Im not saying you do any of that becuase I wouldn't know. But it is just a steriotype. No matter how untrue it is people always "fit in" to one steriotype of people. Like me I guess I would be considered "scene/emo"or what ever..so what do I hear?..that im some low life who does drugs and smokes cigaretts left and right and that I fail all my classes. None of that is true. I've never even touched drugs or anything and I did fine in school. But I always hear the same things. Steriotypes suck but there isn't anything anyone can really do about them. I wish that people wouldn't be so judgemental towards others.

  14. Well, because some black people DO live in the hood and are ghetto, so some people just assume that it's all of them.

  15. I dont say that, but some people are rude. And a lot of the people I know that are black are ghetto. But its the area I live in. But a lot of people dont know enough black people. They prbably just know a couple that are ghetto. But dont worry about it.

And stand up for what u believe in.

  16. It's called ignorance.

And unfortnately there is a never ending line of ignorant people.

  17. RAPPERS say that.  The average person doesn't.

Okay, by rappers, I mean MAINSTREAM rappers, underground rappers don't do that as much.

And the government tries to make it that way, too.  In Boston, they shut down the train to an African American neighborhood, and made a bus go through, saying that they didn't know the difference between a bus and a train, thus making it harder to get to work.

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention rap posers.

  18. because when you go to the ghetto or the hood who do you see? black people! or hispanics. i use to live in the "hood" and there were only blacks and hispanics around. the only time when you would see white people was when they were lost on their way to work or trying to buy drugs

  19. Because people are ignorant and they like to stereotype. I know white, asian, and mexican people that live 'in the hood'. And I know alot of white people who are 'ghetto'. It's all just ignorance in my opinion.

  20. tell you the truth idk but theres all kinds of people in the getto so there wrong
