I am a huge fan of the royals and think they are fantastic!! lol.

I am just curious as to why people don't want them around anymore?

If you say its due to them taking all the taxes, i'll say there were some calculations made a few years ago and it was figured out that the royals cost an individual tax payer 50p a year!! also a lot of them do have jobs and get paid for them!

Also who would go on the stamps and on the money!!??

Who would the police, army, navy and airforce etc work for?

What about the sense of history from them?

The Queen is the most recognisiable person in the world! which means that when people see the Queen they see britain!

  1. In Russia the tzar's had absolute power and absolute  power corrupts absolutely he should have been a figure head

  2. Does it ever bother you that one person is born into poverty, while another is born into wealth and luxury?

    It's INJUSTICE.

The most stupid thing is that royals end up in their position not because they EARNED it, but because they were BORN into it.

That's why throughout history there came many weak rulers like Tsar Nicholas II of Russia.

    EDIT:

WOW there really is something wrong with the world. It's rat-infested by people like you.

  3. I agree with you absolutely.  Since we have to have a head of state, I would just as soon have someone who is born to the job than who has been elected, which would mean yet more tiresome elections, which we already have quite enough of in this country.

I can't believe there are so many people who really yearn for the day when he have some dreary elected nonentity as our head of state instead of the Queen.

And do they really believe that if the monarchy was done away with that would make our society more equal?  Really?  Countries that don't have monarchies still have rich and poor, in case they hadn't noticed.

  4. I say drag 'em out into the streets and hang 'em by there clothes like they did to us!

    why?

Because they aren't actually a monarchy, a waste of money, and not even the true royalty!

    Yes this is a threat!!!

THIS ONE'S FOR THE JACOBITE CAUSE! ALBA GO BRAGH!

  5. What catches my attention is how we humans quickly try to find someone else to blame. Seems like again it's the Queen's time to be held responsible for all the social-economic problems of the country. I can't say I agree with that, mainly because here in the US we don't have  a royal family, the president was elected by the people (not me though). As you all know, the economy is seriously damaged, yet the president and his family live a very luxurious life.

Few differences worth mentioning in these 2 scenarios:

    1) the president and his family's lifestyle is being kept very private (for a good reason).

    2) it is said President Bush is considered the worst President the US ever had.

    3) It is also said Her Majesty the Queen is the best monarch the UK ever had.

Bottom line: will getting rid of the Royal family help addressing the issues mentioned by other members? how can people be so sure that A British republic will put an end to all those issues? Are those peoples' opinions based on research, facts and evaluation or are they just based on what others said out loud? Wouldn't that be called GROUP-THINK?

"Blaming others and denial are the 2 most predictable of all human responses"

  6. Most canadians don't wanna get rid of the monarchy.  And to add to your argument in favour of the monarchy...many tourists come to london to see buckingham palace and other items and attractions related to the monarchy...this brings in more revenue than is expended to maintain the monarchy.

Another factor in favour of the monarchy is that the majority of the royal family are nice people and very charismatic.  Most people instinctively like them.

I am totally in favour of keeping the monarchy.

  7. The monarchy have had their day as far as rulers. The Queen is the richest woman in the world. Prince Charles owns more land in Britain than anyone else. They are simply a draw card for tourism. The Queen has 500 servants in Buck House. Britain is struggling to heat their houses and feed the poor. If the Queen opened Buck house totally to the people, it would fill the coffers with money. She has three castles. Her forbears are the most disliked mob because of e.g. Henry V111 murderer. She should retire to the country.

  8. Because it's based on having someone who has been "chosen by God" to rule your country. Most people in this day and age would like to elect and have some say in who leads them. The Queen of England has no real power anymore, she's simply an iconic figure.

  9. monarchy is degrading the values of people. One person who is chosen based on who knows what, will have a right over the nation. This is wrong.

Scientists, artists and other valuable people who have actually done some thing useful for their people will be on stamps. Police, army, navy and air force work for the nation, not for the queen!

In todays world, most recognizable people are the ones who really make a change,

Immature societies need such symbols to make them unified, if a society is mature such need diminishes

  10. I'm American, but I would have to say that the Monarchy has no real purpose other than a figurehead.

The Queen wants to spend $65 million (US) to revamp Buckingham Palace!

"The royal family cost British taxpayers about $80 million in the fiscal year that ended in March 2008."

"When the Queen flew to the U.S. to mark the 400th anniversary of the Jamestown settlement, the cost of the chartered aircraft alone was more than $760,000, according to the palace. Taxpayers also picked up the $560,000 tab for an official two-week visit to the Caribbean by Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla - including $420,000 for a 12-day yacht charter."

While it is not a lot for the individual person to pay, that money could be used for other purposes

The heads of government or famous British people from the past would go on the stamps and money.

The police, army, navy, and R.A.F. would work for the citizens of Britain.

Getting rid of the monarchy would not diminish the historical significance of them.

Lastly, when I see Britain, I think of the Tower of London, or the River Thames, or the British Flag. Britain is a great country, and getting rid of the monarchy would not diminish its greatness at all!

  11. In short, because the monarchy is an institution that has lost it's relevance. If it didn't already exist then you wouldn't invent it. Some people are attached to it for sentimental reasons though.
