Question:

Why do people wear clothes and animals don't?

Why is it that of all the living creatures on earth, people are the only ones that can't survive extreme temperatures or climate changes without an unnatural source of protection? For instance, I live in a place where the summers are hot and the winters are pretty cold. Why doesn't my body naturally adjust like a bear or a rabbit? It can't be that we have evolved over the last thousands of years with enough sense to make some clothes, otherwise why weren't 'the cavemen' wiped out before they figured it out?

I am not looking for a religious answer. "Because God said...." or "It is in the Bible...." will not suffice as an actual answer. I am looking for well thought out, scientifically plausible answers.

  1. Because animals are not conscious of not wearing anything. ^^ . And humans---can you live all your life wearing nothing?? We are given the gift of knowledge and we use it. That's why we know what to do and not to do. ^^

  2. we didnt evolve that adaptation because we use clothes.

cavemen wore fur to keep them warm. the first clothes.

  3. it is because humans are warm-blooded (we have our own temperature) while other animals are cold-blooded (they take the temperature of their environment)

    ............>

  4. Darnit, there goes my cat fashion show answer.

Perhaps though, humans started out in a mild climate, then moved where temperatures werent so mild.   And becuase they could use tools, they fashioned clothes together, and didnt mind it so.  Then engineers developed clothing for frigid temperatures, scuba suits, astronaut suits, etc for even harsher conditions.  We adapted with our minds versus our skin.  Instead of growing gills, we rent a scuba tanks.  Theres no need then for the body to adapt.

  5. i don't know...i just know if people are different with animal coz people have mind...they know what must they do...!!!

  6. So many different ways to answer this....

I could write paragraphs and paragraphs about this, but to put it in the simplest way possible, our overgrown brains allowed us the ingenuity necessary to survive beyond the sheer capacity of our bodily adaptations, we have become so good at manipulating our environment that we have minimized the impact, from an evolutionary point of view, that the environment would have on us. So, in some aspects natural selection doesn't entirely apply. Our main survival tool is the brain, it is such an efficient tool of adaptation that our bodies are no longer as subject to natural selection as they used to be, in other words, we, as a population, have virtually no need  to evolve, in the sense of physically adapting to the enviromnent. We're......impeding our own evolution.

  7. most animals are incapapable of making anything without opposoble thumbs. then those who do have opposible thumbs can barely make working tools. then those tools are not used to make other 'tools' for being put on their body.

about the most iv seen an animal cover up is when some crazy person forces it on them or that video where an orangatange uses leaves to keep out of the rain but that like an umbrella not clothes

    y do u need this?????????????????????

  8. I do not have an exact answer, so I am just going to throw out a few ideas.

Generally speaking, humans have a lot less body hair than most mammals.  Because we are warm-blooded animals, it is important for us to retain as much body heat as possible, which is difficult to do considering we do not have a great deal of body hair or (usually) not large deposits of fat.  Clothing, especially in cooler temperatures, gives us added insulation to keep us warm.

  9. Well idiot...it's because animals have fur coats.  We DO NOT.  Figure it out.

  10. We're smart enough to learn how to use clothes.

  11. idk i guess they wouldnt even know wat its for

    when we do

  12. Cuz clothes cost money & animals don't have cash money. When's the last time you see a rat who can afford Armani?
