I noticed that people asked me my name again less when I wore the name tag on the right side. We should wear it on the right.

  1. Where I work, it's policy to wear our badges on the left, unless it is worn on a lanyard. I have mine on a reel clip, which I clip to the left side of the collar of my scrubs.

  2. Supposedly, the left side is so that you can show your name and people subconciously realize that your heart is there, thus also showing your mortality to other people. But that's full of c**p. Most people are right handed and auomatically try to balance out their vision by looking at a leftward tilt. Since their left is your right it makes it easier for them to see your nametag when it's on the right.

  3. I think that since we typically face people/customers, thier eyes wander from left to right ( just as we read that way) thus..thier eyes look towards our upper right shoulder first.  I also think the reason some people (including myself) wear a namebadge on the left shoulder is cause (again like myself) am primarily right handed and use that arm alot more, reaching for things or upwards towards boxes, etc. and occasionally that namebadge will poke into the shoulder. Perhaps not a scientific reply, but just my thoughts on the matter.  =)

  4. I put mine on my left (when I wear one), because I'm right handed and it's a little more awkward to stick a pin etc with my hand going straight up at my lapel.  I would think people will automatically look towards your left shoulder if they are right handed, assuming that your name tag will be there.  I'm not sure if there's actually some old etiquette that placed our names to the left.
