I have severe Asthma and it seems like no matter where I go I end up with an attack. The smells and amount that some people wear is overwhelming.I can't continue to pay hard earned money for doctor and ER visits because they want to smell "good".Any suggestions on how I can still have my active life without selfish people interfering to "smell good"

Thanks in advance : )

  1. Must people don't have asthma.  Not sure where you got that stat from.  My research shows approx. 20% (aiming high) of the world population has asthma.

Perhaps you forget that those of us unaffected by asthma don't wake up in the morning wondering what we can do to make your life better.  Sorry, it doesn't work that way.  You are just not that important to us.

If you desire an atmosphere where nothing is scented, try a hospital or old peoples home.

Why not find out what caused you to have asthma and blame them for your quality of life.  Was mom a smoker?  There's your culprit.

  2. I have severe asthma as well, and you are right about many people wearing way too much perfume, however, not most people have asthma. Under 20% of the population has it, but most of that 20% doesn't have a severe case of asthma. The perfumes/colognes bother me as well...my own brother uses the Axe body spray to the point where it stinks up the whole house. You should talk to your doctor about this, and he or she can prescribe a better controller medicine, I'm on Advair and Singulair, and they have worked wonders for me. I went from using my Albuterol inhalers literally 20 times in ONE DAY to using it about once every 2 weeks.

  3. Wow.  I am an avid perfume wearer, I love it, and I don't feel that "most people" have asthma!  I also don't think I'm selfish - I DO think it's a little selfish to sit there and expect everyone not to wear anything just because it may affect a small number of people.  And sorry, but I'm sure you can "still have an active life" without smothering out there!  My God, it's not like you're stuck in an elevator with 10 people wearing perfume all day, every single day!  I'm sorry for your condition, but unfortunately it doesn't warrant you calling us all selfish because we don't have it!

  4. I know what you mean, I was on oxygen for about 5 months when I was 15 and ever since I'm more sensitive to fumes, like the diesel from cars when I'm out, as soon as I smell that I feel like I can't breathe. The worse thing tho is when I go shopping and people (mainly guys) put way too much aftershave on, I can smell it straight away and as soon as I walk past I usually say "woah ease up on the after shave buddy" lol. Usually I'm with my mum so only she hears it but if that person did hear it, I wouldnt be worried, like you said alot of people suffer from asthma and in mycase I have a worse condition and people with perfume do make it worse for people like us. As for asking people to tone it done? Really you can't the most you could do is try to stand further away or try to walk further away from them if you smell it.
