  1. Probably to keep your leg muscles tight and compact...and for the guy's to keep "everything" else in place.

  2. If you just wear regular shorts then your legs might rub together and get chaffed - bumpy, sore, and sometimes bleed. Usually happens when girls wear short shorts, but it can also happen with longer shorts.

It also keeps your muscles compact.

  3. The compression shorts are used to allow you to train without having any restrictions from underwear or boxers or briefs. And allow you to have something on under your shorts as you run.  In most states, if your underwear can be seen as you run, you can be disqualified.  So wearing compression shorts that are a school color is a safe way to get around that.  But remember to check with your coach about the manufacturers labels.  I know in Ohio, they can only be a 1 inch square, no larger.

  4. Those shorts would be called "Bike" shorts. It shouldn't be mandactory to wear them, but if you do have them, just wear it. Cause when you run, sometimes your shorts would go up. It happens to some people. But I believe that the reason why people wear those bike shorts under is just to cover up.
