Why do people who look bad face to face look amazing in photos?

And vice versa. People who are above average but not perfect looking look less prettier in photos?

i think i look better in person, but i dont come that bad across in picture, it depends on the lighting in the picture and the quality and stuff as well.

it's all about photogenia.....but I would prefer being naturally beautiful than being only in photos and not actually.....

My theory -- it's the angles of the face, and the bone structure. I have a soft, round face and have always taken terrible pictures, but I'm fairly attractive in real life. My sister has always taken great pictures and she's got better cheekbones.
