I just answered a question from some kid who wanted to buy a cockpit from a scrap F-111 for his Dad. I told him the truth our government would never sell any modern combat aircraft to an indvidual and a F-111 is a lot more modern than a lot of the worlds countries have. He wanted a cockpit to make a fathers day gift. They would fill half the average americans garage. He still picked someone who told him he can find it for sell on-line. Maybe a control stick handle but not a cockpit...Buy his Dad a good model thats a lot more afforadable and its reality......

Aquisitions like that are possible, but take a tremendous amount of time and work to push through. There's the possibility that only a museum can legally aquire it, in which case he'll have to fund the aquisition, dedicate it to his dad and perhaps arrange for his father to work on it if he'd enjoy it. A cockpit without functioning avionics is really just a bunch of scrap and the thing that is most important to the gov is that the equipment cannot be used any more so, if it is disabled, then it may be possible. In any event, while the whole thing may be impossible in the end, giving it a try can't hurt.  The largest hangup is likely to be money. Such a project might take many thousands of dollars.

  You're right about getting such a thing online. That's pretty absurd. Also, for a gift idea I think I'd go in for a high quality model as well. It would certainly be easier to get and to own. Still, if it can be done, I'd be very glad to see it happen.

Darkstar, that picture was obviously taken on an airfield, most likely at an airshow. Seems the british government owns that one
