Why do peoples eyes get red when intoxicated?

Booze tends to raise your blood pressure while at the same time it makes your veins shrink, therefore it makes your skin pinkish or bloodshoot looking, same goes for your eyes after having too much to drink. Your body is working overtime trying to rid your system of all the booze you have taken in.

Burst? no, that is dumb. you would become blind.

The blood vessels actually just become enlarged and dilated making the white surface of the eye appear red.

The redness is caused by burst blood vessels in the eye, exactly what causes the bursting I don't know.
