Ferrets are the animals that do not need corn or fiber as thier bodies can not break down the fiber and corn and it causes blockages and can kill them if not surgically removed whey and gluten are not good in hi amounts for any animals and the co that makes dog food  know they need it as of this yr dog food and cat co,s  like purina and friskies  alley cat  and Blue (Blue is a great choice for dogs and have none of the corn or gluten that can hurt these animals you can get it at pet co pet smart concord pets and others

some animals need wheat and corn in their diet...maybe not large amounts, but small ones

Good for you! they dont belong in cat foods. The reason is obvious

True and most food co use corn or corn meal as the first ingredient! Cheap for them as a filler! Bad - I always use a dog food that has meat or lamb's rice listed first and the cornmeal etc is about the 4-6 listed ingredient!

It's an inexpensive way to provide some nutrient or other, rather than using the more expensive, but appropriate, source such as meat.

I've also heard that there are incentives for using farmers' offal, the bits and pieces of leftover animals that would normally be thrown out but are instead turned into cat food.

Cats do not need wheat or corn, and their carb requirements are very very low.
