  1. because you get more momentum pushing off a mound instead of flat ground.

  2. From Wikipedia:

"A pitcher will push off the rubber with his foot in order to gain velocity toward home plate when pitching. In addition, a higher mound generally favors the pitcher. With the height advantage, the pitcher gains more leverage and can put more downward velocity on the ball, making it more difficult for the batter to strike the ball squarely with the bat."

  3. Duh... That's where they are supposed to pitch from. That's why they call it the pitchers mound.

  4. Because if they were to sit it would be hard to pitch

  5. bc they r good like tht

  6. The pitching mound exist primarily due to the physics of throwing a baseball at a high rate of speed (a very unnatural motion for the human body). The majority of pitchers come "over the top" of their shoulders with the ball, striding forward, before release. To do this without a "downward force" would create an even higher strain on the arm, as well as being less accurate. You'd have to go on mlb.com or wikipedia, but Major League Baseball actually lowered the pitchers mound about 40 years ago from the original rules as they started to favour the pitcher too heavily.

  7. Because the pitching mound is elevated and it gives the pitchers an easier time at throwing at the catcher.

  8. It helps the pitcher throw faster. When they are higher, they can throw at a more downward angle, which increases the force of gravity. The force of gravity increases the ball's velocity. This is why taller pitchers tend to have an advantage (Pedro Martinez and Whitey Ford being the exceptions).

  9. because they wont let them sit down on the mount

  10. Because thats were they are suppose to stand

  11. Because Almond Joys have nuts, Mounds don't.

  12. They need a central spot for throwing the ball, so they can't just throw from any area.
