Not to mention the awkwardness of making, assembling, and storing a round box instead of a square one, if you put the pizza in a circular box, how would you extract the first slice without putting your fingers though the topping?

Because square boxes are CHEAPER than round boxes.  If a pizza joint really wanted a round box they could have a box company make one, but man would it cost way more than a square one.
