Question:

Why do planes have the FL CH (=flight level change) button on the autopilot? I mean when you are at 2000 ft...

..... and want to climb to 3000 ft, you are still on "altitude" and not on a FL change, so why is button not better called "altitude change"?

  1. The manufacturer's preference after doing some research. Probably due to the fact that airliners fly at flight levels for the major portion of their operations.
