  1. Plants need root to absorb water and minerals.

  2. ?

  3. So vegans won't starve to death.

  4. ummm because they are plants not animals

  5. That's just how plants are.  Instead of digesting their food, they make their own food by absorbing water from the ground and using photosynthesis to make glucose that is its food source.  The roots branch out into the ground to increase the surface area touching dirt, to maximize water and nutrient absorption.  But there are certain plants that have in them digestive juices to kill and obtain nutrients from insects, like the Venus fly trap.

  6. because if they don't then complex life on earth is screwed.

    1. the sun is our "sole" energy source. of course you can say magnetic, gravitational energy but they are not in context here

    2. plants, they are the only connector b/w us and the sun's energy. answer is :photosynthesis

  7. Plant 'eating' is different than Animal eating. Animals get our nutrition by eating other things so we need a digestive system to break down the food into something our body can use for energy. Plants on the other hand get their food from mixing Sunlight and Water in a process called Photosynthesis. The plants need roots so they can absorb water to aid in this process. The cool thing about this is that photosynthesis takes place in every cell on the plant's leaf (that's why they're green!) so it doesn't need a central digestive system to supply it with energy.

  8. they use respiration to take in water and CO2 and relase O2 and other waste... they don't need it... and think... do you want to clean up after a plant...

  9. They are primary producers and so have nothing to digest. However they do need a supply of water and minerals to support their metabolism -hence the root system.
