Why do players do a 3 point stance for the start of the 40 yard dash?

I have been wondering why do football players do a 3 point stance in the start of the 40 yard dash..is it for momentum or iono..haha...please explain..

  1. It helps with getting the fastest start possible like sprinters it has a little to do with momentum and body positioning to help eliminate unnecessary movements


  2. Because it helps idk how to explain, when I do a 3 point, when im sprinting, I just lean over so my head is in the front and I just go off i dont know how to explain it though.

  3. You lean forward to shift the weight on the front of your body. The weight at the front of your body keeps you low when you explode out of your stance. The three point stance is to keep you from falling over when your weight is forward. It is not like a offensive linemans three point stance it is more athletic  

  4. Explosive, faster start. The upswinging arm drives forward and the down arm pushes forward - both together create a lunge out of the start cannot be achieved from a standing start. The more you do it , the more the coordinated the motion becomes.

  5. Same reason track stars do it. It starts you out low and you gradually raise up. Less body mass for the wind to drag you down
