Why at the Masters do some players try their hardest to not win the par 3 contest? Does it really take enough out of them that they can not win the Masters?

  1. The winner of the par 3 contest has never gone on to win the Masters.

  2. No one has won both the par 3 tournament and the Masters tournament ever.

  3. There are a number of players actually who have won both the par 3 contest and the main tournament just not in the same year.  Some include:  Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, Sandy Lyle, and Mark O'Meara.  It is said that Tiger Woods used to say if he had ever been in the lead going into the last hole of the Par 3 contest when he played he would have put 10 in the water on the 9th hole to make sure he didn't win.

  4. Superstition

  5. Because the winner of the PAR 3, has never won the MAsters the same year. and that goes back to when the started this 50 years ago,

Mainly this tournoment PAR3 , is for fun and and a good time

and also to see the older player play

  6. There is folk lore going around that if you win the par 3, you will lose the masters.  There has only been one player to win both the par 3 and win masters (Vijay Singh).  But he won the par 3 in 1994 and Masters in 2000.  Crazy huH?

Btw Tiger doesn't play it because he says its too "distracting"

  7. par 3 winner has NEVER won the masters (the same year). i wouldn't want to win it either.

    aj

  8. no one has ever won both. The players think it's a curse. Golf is a sport full of superstitious nuts. I wouldn't try to win either.

  9. Because the winner has to face another hour of stupid questions from the media. It just ain't worth the effort.
