Why do police escort fighters to the ring?

i ask everyone and nobody has a clear answer?

and its not a regular cop either... its always like a sheriff too

its not like a fan is gonna get in the way of a fight

  1. They're hired to do the job off-duty. There's a decent chance some idiot's going to attack a fighter, just to show off. It's not bad theater, too.  


  2. Security is needed at any sporting event. Chances are, the promoter is required to sign an agreement stating officers will be present before he is given a permit to hold the event. Protecting the athletes is part of the agreement.

    It is usually a deputy sheriff, as they have the primary responsibility of law enforcement anywhere in the county.

    You see the same thing at football games, especially college games in the south. The coaches are surrounded by officers before and after the game.
