Question:

Why do police officers make a big deal about speeding and want to call it a safety issue when its a money grab

Let me explain

I received a ticket for 77 in a 65 on a 4 lane major hwy that had little traffic and no traffic lights. The cop wanted to start preaching safety to me (after he wrote me the ticket). I told him to cut the c**p and that his ticket is nothing but a revenue generator. I told the cop that people like me that have snap in their step can drive safely at high rates of speed. I went on to tell him that there are drivers with no snap in their step that are very dangerous drivers at 10 mph below the speed limit. I told him not to preach safety to me and just give me the damned ticket so I can pay it to help out his poor azz small town. He wasn't happy with me but there was not a damned thing he could do about it.

Point is, traffic tickets, speed traps in most cases are nothing more than a money grab and NOT about safety. It's freeken BS. I can drive safer at 90 mph than many people can drive at 50.

  1. Your the only person to say that you are a good driver ,that cop proved you wrong ,and it cost you money .

  2. The point is - you were caught driving 77 mph on a road that was designed for a maximum speed of 65 mph . And please forgive Mr. Cop for being on a soap box . See, Mr. Cop, as a 'first responder,' has to investigate and clean up what's left of the deceased . And since those broken corpses are no longer able to answer ?'s about the why's and what's, Mr. Cop feels something of a duty to try and get through our thick skulls that if we don't straighten up and drive right, we're gonna be next . And all Mr. Cop wants to do is go home at the end of his shift and get a good sleep without having counsel from a psychiatrist or a priest or by blurring the horrific images in his mind with a pill or a drink.

And you are correct, he has to watch out for the un-snappy ones too . And if I break down, he will give me a push to clear traffic . All of the speed traps and tickets and check points are reminders of the way we should be driving without being reminded.

  3. it is a safety issue. because of the other guy that is driving 50. if you come up to a guy doing 50 and your doing 80, you have to stop quick to account for him being slow, and if someone were behind you they would have to stop even faster, he might end up hiting you or something. well i do agree with you about the tickets being a revenue generator, and that if the streets are clear then it should be safe to put it down, and it shouldnt be a problem.

  4. It is a safety issue...my problem is why do the police on their off hours drive faster than anyone else? But back to the issue...you can not drive safer at 90mph....you do not have enough reaction time. I work in a field where I see car wreck victims all the time and if you could see what a body looks like mangled within all the metal of a car you would know that driving is serious and speeding is the worst thing you can do. Slow down, no one wants to go to your mom and dad and tell them you died in a car accident.

  5. Hopefully, you will understand when you grow up.

  6. If the highway has little to no traffic and you are driving correctly and traveling at a higher rate of speed, so what as long as you are in complete control, you dont bother me........

  7. Awhile ago I got a fix-it ticket and was polite. A week later I ended up giving a witness report to the same cop after I saw a civic get broadsided by an SUV. I was a bit jolted anyway, but it would have been harder had I been a jerk the week earlier, even though my violation had nothing to do with the right of way violation thath caused this accident.

  8. It's human nature (some more than others) to try to justify getting caught for breaking a law.

    Laws are for honest people

People who don't understand the reason for laws usually end up making a lot of trouble for those who do.

If you hadn't been stopped for speeding 12 mph over the limit posted (at least know the speed at which the police set the radars), then you wouldn't have posted this BEEF in the first place. You would just have carried on (and may still do, but with less $$), and continued to break more and more laws, justifying your existence as an "outlaw". If you don't live within the law, then you are an "outlaw".

Speeding is statistically the highest cause of young men's deaths on the roads.

There are places where you can develop SKILLS at higher rates of SPEED, and even compete with others better than yourself. Racing is a sport which is usually done under controlled conditions with high safety factors taken into account.

On the highways, you, in your vehicle, are only as safe as the mechanical condition of your vehicle, the condition of the weather and road surface, your own driving skills and the condition of your attitude.

You are not out there with other skilled veterans of road racing, but with all sorts of other drivers with various levels of skill, some weak, and some very  good.

Based on the fact that you can't read minds, as a driver you never know what someone will do next..........whether it be lose control passing you, creeping up too close behind, braking suddenly in front of you, etc. People are going about their daily business, travelling from Point A to Point B, while being distracted by the thought of the moment, a cell phone ringing, grabbing something which fell.

This scenario doesn't occur on racetracks, which is why you should take your male hormones there. In that way, the rest of us can travel safely on the roads and not have to worry about YOU speeding down the road,  maybe getting a flat tire and not knowing how to handle the situation, resulting in the inconvenience, injury or death of others.

Know your limit - Drive within it

The laws are made for public safety. Yes slow drivers are frustrating too, but go with the statistics.......

.........paying a traffic fine isn't the message, it's only a "police" action to enforce the law..........although the side effect may be that you are helping in developing a community.......which isn't so bad, is it?

    Enjoy your summer

  9. I agree with you.. Is mostly about the $$$$...
