Question:

Why do politicians assume everywhere is like London?

What is it with politicians and the various academics that are telling us car users we need to get out of the car and onto public transport.

I've been to London numerous times, and yes the public transport system there works very well, providing you stay within the confines of central London.

Up here in the North we don't have the luxury of tubes or an efficient bus service. A vast majority of people work on industrial estates in the middle of nowhere.

How the h**l do they expect us to get to work using public transport?

It takes me half an hour to travel the 30miles to work. On public transport I am looking at two hours.

I know this argument has been stated before, but everytime I see the car debate on TV or in the papers, this issue is never raised, its always a politician harping on about how they use the tube so why can't everyone else use public transport

aaargh makes my blood boil !!

  1. Its not just the North, most places in the south are nothing like London transport wise either, in the countryside without a car there is literally nothing. Most rural areas have Tory Mps though so the government often diverts money away from these areas to give to Inner city labour heartlands.

  2. You are right of course. I recently went down to London and wanted to get from Victoria Station to Kings Cross Station. There was a bus service from the station forecourt every 3 minutes!

I live in a North Suffolk village and work alternating shift patterns 28 miles from home. In theory there is a bus service approx. every 30 minutes or so. In practice I HAVE to travel by car because on my early shifts the first available bus gets to my village 40 minutes after my shift starts 28 miles away! On my late shifts, the last bus home leaves over 2 hours before my shift ends.  Go by bike?  Not at 64yrs of age thank you.

  3. Go have a beer. ; )

  4. Yes I know what you mean. I live up North in the countryside with the most expensive fuel in the country excluding the Islands which are worse. Public transport is a joke as the buses are run on profit and in rural areas it does not pay buses to run too far too often. If you need a bus at the weekend then forget it as they are very scarce on a Saturday and none on a Sunday. Weekdays are a little better but don't cover all routes and couldn't get you to work.

The only way to get around is the car.
