  1. Name one group that has lifetime status without being reelected. Supreme court justices don't count as politicians and are appointed not elected.

  2. The problem is the electorate. America has the lowest voting rates of any democratic country. This works in favor of the incumbents. Low voter turnout almost guarantees re-election. This will continue until we institute term limits or people get off their lazy asses and vote.

  3. and then when they retire we still have to pay them..

  4. Because they control the power and make it so that the ordinary guy can't buck the system.

  5. If every American citizen were to:

    1. Pay attention

    2. Vote

Then you wouldn't be having to ask this question.

  6. Larry Byrd plays good b-ball,that's why!

  7. Because the voters continue to vote for them even if they are old or overstaying.  It is the people's choice and they are the one's to blame if politicians overstay in their positions. They are suppose to vote for the best candidate but if they keep on voting for the same candidate, of course he will get top stay on forever in his job.

  8. Because we, the citizens, allow them to.

  9. look its good to have one person in office for a long time that way it saves the taxpayers money  if we changed politicians every 2-4 years imagine how much it will cost in pension -medical=dental- for him or her  plus thier families  the longer they stay in office say for life you only pay 1 set of perks instead of paying for maybe 20-30 politicions perks wise up keep voting for the incumbent
