    I think principal are supposes to do evluations of their teachers to make sure every thing is going smooth and that the teacher is teaching and has control of the classroom.


  2. My teachers got evaluated this week actually the principal sat at the back of the class. However in your case I think the principal is trying to intimidate the teacher so that he or she becomes nervous and mess up.

The evaluation of teaching quality goes beyond just knowing if the students like the teacher or not.  It requires someone knowledgeable about teaching to know if the teacher is using recommended techniques, following a lesson plan, managing the classroom well, etc.  I work at a university, and professors often sit in on each other's classes to evaluate teaching, but in a primary or secondary school, when teachers are busy with their own classes all day, the principal or another administrator may perform this task.
