Question:

Why do private schools turn out such total a******s?

I was thinking about my university days and the total a******s I met from private schools. I grew up in a middle class family in the north and went to a normal high school. I have a northern accent. My parents were both teachers and were proud and hard working professional people. I went to university with high hopes but nearly everyone on my course and in my hall of residence was from private school. I had to stand there and take their rude comments about my accent, jokes about northern slums, was asked if my dad worked in a coal mine and met girls who would stop talking to me 30 seconds after hearing my accent. I passed my degree but never speak to anyone from uni now. I still can't believe people from private school are like this towards their fellow travellers and if I had my way I would have them all closed down.

  1. i am a southerner who lives in derbyshire and find that kinda racism works both ways

i get loads of locals think i am filthy rich and want to give it all away - TO THEM

and comments about b&*)(&^dy Londoners - like all 6 million of us are totally alike?

i was told before we moved here how friendly people in derbushire were - i wish someone had told THEM they were friendly - all i have found are rude racist clannish mindsets that are proud of getting to retirement without working a day in their lives

  2. Charles I think I'm in love with you!

It's not just schools, it's anywhere. Some places can be very cliquey and no matter how hard you try you're not going to fit in. It could be worse, you could be bending over backwards to stick your head up your own **** to fit in with the rest.

It sucks that you had a bad time, but a lot of people go through it. The best you can hope for is to move on and move up, and try to get away from a bad patch in your life.

And I wouldn't say you've got a 'northern chip' on your shoulder. You're indignant with every right to be.

  3. Children from private schools seem to be such jerks because they have grown up with a sense of entitlement.  From the time they were born, they probably received everything they ever wanted  - parents never telling them "no."  To them, their way of life is the only way. You are an interloper who is encroaching on their turf & they are afraid, therefore, they make fun of you so they can "put you in your place."

  4. I went to a Private school and I am definitely not an a*****e! I'm a nice human being like all my fellow class mates!

  5. because being rich they buy their friends!!

they dont feel the need to be nice because daddys credit card can always persuade people to like them.

my brother went to private school for a few years and hes ok (as far as cricket obsessed freaks can be ok) but  a few of the people gave me dirty looks as i went to collect him in my state school uniform. at least i didnt wear a kilt! lol

  6. Scottish, Irish, Welsh and PURE Scouser here, Mate. Anyone who slags others off because of accent or manners are tasteless gits, no matter what kind of money their families had.

Might add, it is the money teachers made that was left to me to pay for my education, so let the prats be damned.

  7. Perhaps your experience was more down to you than them...it sounds like you have a "northern chip" on your shoulder...I am working class and Northern and went to Uni with a load of posh kids too...some had been to Rugby and Bennendon...wer'e talking REALLY posh here....and I made some great friends among them.

  8. THEIR the a$$hole not you! people in those kinds of schools are brought up to think they are better than everyone else but theres no such thing!people are people and they are not smarter or better thet just have no personalities i actually find the northern accent incredibly s**y!

i actually come from plymouth england...we all sound like farmers and pirates down here. i also have a lisp so people dont take me seriously...but ive always been first in my class every school/college ive been and am more intelligent than my public school boyfriend...i have to help HIM with his maths and english!

  9. I think you had a bad experience at uni.  Alot of public school kids are fine.  it is the ones who belong to families where money is no problem, who are ferried everywhere by Mummy and Daddy and having to cut back means having only two holidays a year and possibly a slightly cheaper skiing holiday in the winter!

Many of those kids could not cope with budgetting and finance - many had got to the age of 18 without ever getting on a bus or train and were less streetwise than my 12 year old!  They do not know how to act or talk to anyone with a different background to themselves.  I wouldn't blame these kids - it is down to the parents who have let these kids down as much as the Chav parents who allow their kids to rot on some bad council estate.

  10. well obviously i'm american, but i totally get what you're saying. my english teacher is from yorkshire = ]

he has an awesome accent by the way. lol.

but i have a southern accent. and go to private school where southerners are looked down on. people laugh at my voice all the time. but i'm proud to be southern. northerners put us down and say we're stupid, but i just laugh because they have no idea what they're talking about. i don't need some sanctimonious yankee to tell me who i am.

don't let anyone ever tell you you're inferior. be d**n proud of that 'northern chip on your shoulder'

and as for private school kids, i am one.. and i don't think of myself as too s****.. lol. i definitely know a few though... it all comes down to how your parents raised you. i love, love, love my parents for doing it right. i feel sorry for the poor kids who are out of touch with reality..

  11. The worst are old boarding schools-the famous Public Schools. My best friend's parents decided to send him to such a boarding school when he was 13 so I said goodbye to him at the end of the summer before he went. Next time I saw him was at Christmas (just one term at the school) and he had turned into a horrible prat-arrogant, sexist and racist and thought he was better than me and everyone else who used to be his friends. I avoided him like the plague from then on.

The atmosphere at these schools and some of the really posh private day schools is what does it-they are taught to expect that one day they will run the country and have loads of power so they think they can get away with treating people like dirt.

Sorry you met so many like that at uni. It must have been really annoying.

  12. it's because they're total snobs and stuck up, i guess you can't really blame them for the way they act it's mainly the parents. but they should know better they think they're better than anyone else.
