  1. depends when your seeing them but alot of time it is becuase they work on speed if you can tap form that distance you can hit form that distance any pro mma fighter can hit hard obviously but there is really no reaosn to on a bag

  2. Judo answered correctly

They do it to impove form,conditioning,timing,footwork,streng... muscle needed to punch they have many reasons also pros usually dont focus on power because they know they have enough to knock out the opponent so they focus on everything else

  3. Judo answered this question perfectly. unless its timing or technique they usually are doing heavy bag work.

  4. to stay in shape and get faster..bang ..bang..

  5. When do you see professional MMA fighters hit the bags?

You mean like on The Ultimate Fighter, or the Prefight coverage stuff?

There is time that bag work is done, usually as part of a workout. In the middle of conditioning drills, yes, guys won't go all out on a bag. There is plenty of times they do heavy bag work, and hitting focus pads is nearly full power as well (which is far more helpful as far as accuracy and footwork).

I have seen plenty of coverage on TV of guys hitting the heavybags hard.

Prior to a fight though usually a lot of heavy bag work, or heavy sparring is cut out to try to reduce the chance of injury. A week or two out from a fight there will be little more than conditioning and timing exercises to ensure that you are healed up and fresh.

But in general, guys do hit the heavybag hard when it is time to do bag work. They don't go all out because you want to maintain form, or keep your wind up so that you can hit it for a full round instead of gassing yourself out by using all your energy on 10 or 20 haymaker all out shots, when you can throw 150 decent power shots accurately. You conserve energy like that in a fight as well, you don't spend the whole time swinging for the fences. You set things up, the deliver a couple of power shots in combination.

No one should be hitting the heavy bag with everything they have on every punch... you won't be able to hit it for very long, or nearly as much.

You train as you want to fight.

That being said, I don't see too much footage (aside from cardio work) where the guys are "tapping" the bag, unless they are essentially doing shadowboxing or just keeping timing and conditioning up prior to a fight.
