Question:

Why do pubs have simmilar names, if pubs are meant to mean something from the town/ city there in?

For example the rose and crown,the bulls head and the red/white lion these a few of them around but I thought pubs were meant to mean something or symbolise something in the town or city ther in???

  1. Pub names (at least those which are older and not just daft marketing names like the slug & lettuce) come from a variety of origins, certainly not just their town or city.

    The Red Lion for example comes from the badge of John of Gaunt and is all over the country.

  2. You can go up the King's Arms but no pub is called The Queen's Legs.

  3. same goes for street names. i dont think ive ever been to a town that doesnt have a London Road, Cambridge Street etc

  4. we got the four wind pub on the beach front cuz it gets windy. and also the dunes and where i am from our houses are build on sand lol ( sandfelds estate)
