Is it a cultural thing? My boyfriend is columbian and he has only 2 sisters. I asked him about it and he says it's the hispanic culture. I think big families are awesome. I'd like to have one someday when I'm done college and I can financially stand on my own 2 feet.

  1. MAYBE THEY DONT HAVE THE HEART TO GET ABORTIONS. IM PRETTY SURE WHITE FEMALES GET PREGNANT AND GET A QUICK FIX BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT FINANCIALLY STABLE OR FEEL THAT THEY ARE NOT READY FOR IT.

  2. Its not only Hispanic culture, but it goes way back to the beginnings of time. Big families were an honorable thing, and in some countries and cultures it still is very honorable to have big families.

  3. its cultural n economic in the sense that back then u needed workers or help around the place pop out some people power but in the north american culture  its to expensive to have alot of kids if u look back all familys where big but as economies developed kids turned out to be an expense instead of a de-duction

  4. probably for welfare and food stamps.

  5. Speaking as someone who was raised (and is) being raised in a Puerto-Rican/White (German/WASP) household, Families are important to Puerto-Ricans (and Hispanic people in general). Plus there's also the fact that A LOT of Puerto-Ricans are Catholic (and once again Hispanic families in general) and Catholics are strongly against the idea of abortions or even birth control pills, condoms, etc. (but that's a whole other matter). If you also notice, a lot of Cultures (Italians, Irish, Hispanic, etc.) that are Catholic tend to have large families. We're just a very family-orientated and affection culture.

My own family is small compared to traditionally other Puerto-Rican families. I only have 3 uncles and only 3 1st cousins.

As for black families. The majority of black families I met aren't really that big, oddly enough.

But then again, you assume that 2/3 siblings is a big family. From a Puerto-Rican family, 4-6 kids is considered a lot. :D

  6. I think you have a narrow-minded experience.  It isn't true for every black or hispanic.  Tell your views to my aunts with one and two children.  Did they do something wrong?

  7. Technically that's not true. Birth-Rate amongst African American Women have declined amongst the last 5 yrs. The race that is actually going to be the majority soon is Hispanics. They are thriving at an alarming rate and soon even caucasians will be a minority. This is proven. 2012

  8. Well...I'm an only Child. My mom only has one brother. My Grandpa's Sisters have had 3 or less kids. But his mother, my great Grandmother had 11 kids. So I think it just depends on the person and how many they are willing to have.

  9. I don't know. Great question. I have two sons ten years apart. I wish I could have had more but we couldn't afford them. It's hard enough trying to feed the two of them. lol  But hopefully, I will have lots of grandchildren. My dad had twelve siblings and they grew up very poor. I have only one sister but it would have been nice to have more. Perhaps girls who have lots of kids either just love kids or don't know about birth control. I'm only talking about the women that have a different daddy for each child. I admire women who can take care of more than one kid in diapers at the same time. Bless their hearts I always think, especially cause of the price of diapers now a days.

  10. You already answered. Most women over there don't go to school and be independent, just be home to bear and take care of children

  11. I don't think this is true with Black people. I was an only child. I also worked for the Dept. of Soc. Services and there were not many black women getting food stamps, etc. It was mostly mexican women with many children.

My best friend is Black and she is an only child as well. I think it's crazy to generalize all blacks and pr as having large families.
