I understand that pups like to chew on things, especially when teething but what is with older pups who begin hard-mouthing? I don't get it.

  1. all dogs would hard mouth if not trained not too.  Like children, we need to teach a puppy what is appropriate play behaviour, and what is not appropriate, such as jumping, pushing, biting.

The funny this is that children and puppies have similar faults if not taught better.

  2. It's In There Nature. I mean Did Wolves Nibble On Bison, Did Foxes

Just Ask To Eat Chickens, Did [Do] Coyote's Grill Cows.                NO NO and of course NO. The need To Bite [or at least The need To   bite Hardly In Gun dogs] Has Been Breed Out Of Saint Bernard's,

Lab's,Golden Retriever's, Poodles [Not Just Because There Small] And Many Many More. Dogs Often Have To Be Trained Not to Bite But

Some Grow Out of It.They Do not Have to Be a special Breed To Grow Out Of This Tho With, pit Bulls And Bull Dogs This is Vary Uncommon.

  3. Dogs play bite when young.  If you never trained your dog that this is not ok,  this might be why yours is now "hard mouthing".  Try giving the dog 2 quick fingers to the nose immediately upon infraction...  firm enough to make the dog sneeze, but not hard enough to harm him.  He should get the point pretty soon. -!-
