Why do radio stations broadcast their call letters as close to the hour as possible?

im doing a project in my radio broadcasting class and i need as much information as to why radio stations broadcast their license, call letters and the city they transmit from every hour as close to the top of the hour as possible

  1. My understanding is that there are FCC regulations that dictate how often that the call letters must be transmitted.  The stations do it at the same time each hour to make sure they comply with this regulation.


  2. Possibly because some people may only tune in for the news, and they want them to remember them?

    I would call the station, and ask them, to be sure.  They shouldn't mind telling you.
